Went to visit the battlefield this past weekend. I was in awe. Great use of tax dollars. I read a lot of the battle, I also wargame,ie play with little toy soldiers. Being on the ground and getting the feel of the lay of the land you can see how things went as they did. Most of the States that had units present have monuments as well as individual regiment monuments. Some where very impressive,Virginia with Lee astride Traveler,Pennsylvania, New York,Arkansas where the ones that really impressed me. UNit wise the Irish Brigades was awesome as befitting the unit. To see where they formed up and started across a mile under constant fire from around 100 cannons and the fact that some made it and they almost broke the line staggers the mind. Standing where the 20th Maine did and maybe standing in the exact spot where Chamberlain ordered bayonets and went into the history books. The downtown is a little touristy but not overt like other places I have been. they do not price gouge, walked around and felt the history. If you have any interest in American History especially the Civil War go and make it fast before they put up the casino they are trying to build.

I went a few times when I lived on the east coast. It is a really cool place. I would have suggested you
take the short drive down to see Antietam in Maryland. Bloodiest day of fighting in American history.
23,000 dead or wounded in one day.

Been there. The coolest day to visit there is on the anniversary of the battle. They light a candle for each of the fallen.
