I spent a weekend there one summer when the Video Games Live concert was in town. Everyone dressed up as someone, people doing the larping thing throughout the hotel at night, just all kinds of crazy shit going on everywhere you went.

Back in ancient History, SOE lanched a game Called StarWars Galaxies,A truly awesome massive and diverse MMORPG. It was hard complicated and intense. It was not level based. It had skill trees so you could build your toon anyway you wanted. The economy was 100% player driven,the best equipment and weapons where made by players,everything was done by players. You could not start play as a Jedi,in fact they did not tell you how to unlock the in game code to allow you to start on the path to a Jedi,in fact it was not the same for every player.It took 9 months before the first Jedi appeared. The Game was set right after New Hope,It looked great, they introed space 6 months after launch.You did not need to group up to do a lot ofthe content like most other games.It was perfect,then they started fucking with it. First was the CU(Combat Upgrade) did some stuff not too bad but started the ball rolling on people leaving. then came the game killer NGU(New Game Upgrade) They said tey wanted to make it more "User Friendly " and to stop the player loss and mke it more fun,bullshit .They dumbed it down.Took away the skill tree and put in levels, starting players could be Jedi(Huge slap in the face to all of the people who sent months of work to unlock the secrets of the Force),the took away decay(equipment never worse our thereby killing player crafters(Like me)) Players left in droves, Servers started closing. A few months ago being bored I did a google search and looked at the games Wiki and they said there where private free servers running. For a game that was killed by Sony over 4 years ago???? So i looked and there is and still being played by a couple of thousands. One group is based out of the CME. So I bought a copy of the game,loaded it up and set up and wow it was as good as I remembered. They have it set up just like launch. Pre CU ,Pre NGE.Sometimes you can go home.
