Doc is great. I wish Pat Foley had his focus and stayed away from the long, boring, stat filled, time wasting, statements or questions.

Doc is terrible, a screeching, rambling, portentous steel wool pad on the ears.

This.

Two different styles but both are very enjoyable.

I could not disagree more.

I feel they do have something in common; neither takes himself too seriously. To each it is all about the game, the teams and the players, not themselves.

You gotta catch him going into an overtime when he goes into his weird little monologues that try to sound profound. "Hockey...is a game. And a game is played until someone wins. And so until someone wins...we shall play." Stuff like that.

He's not awful but his fucking screeching and histrionics wear thin over a 3 hour broadcast.

He makes verbs up. Out of nouns. And adjectives. It's the strangest thing.

That was lovely.

Doc's ok. He is way too excited thought. HE SCAAAARS! And just about 5-6 times a period, something gets knifed away and I still don't know what that is supposed to mean, and I've heard it probably 200 times or better.

Compared to some of the other PbP guys I've heard, hes AMAZING. Course, most announcers are slackjawed halfwits.

Doc is awful, and having to listen to him yack on and on instead of letting the game occasionally just happen without incessant commentary, is brutal. I am forced to choose between him or the Hawks radio call. Bad.

I don't need to be reminded every game 7 about how every kid grew up waiting for this moment, playing on their driveway or backyard rink. We get it, man. He has no business being the voice of national broadcasts. Nor does Pierre, or Edzo. NBC blows. The fact that Pierre is the least insufferable of those 3 is a problem.

In a town that thinks Ken Harrelson is fit for broadcast television, there's comparably nothing wrong with Doc other than being called Doc.

Plus, if Doc's talking, it means Pierre's not.

I'd like to hear Doc read Goodnight Moon ... "goodnight red light, goodnight camera that feeds to Toronto ... SCARRRRRRRR!"

The best in the business is John Forslund who has been cursed to call Hurricane games but he does some national work too and hopefully takes over for Doc when he retires.

As for Doc, he's pretty good. Too wordy, we already know this, but he gets the job done. He makes the games more exciting than they actually are, a trait that gets condemned when it should get praise.

Overall, I like Doc. Agreed he over-sensationalizes plays, but that's a minor drawback.

Doc made an incorrect call in game 1 of the SCF, & he realized it & says " The eye test is tomorrow". THAT is why I love Doc. I like the imperfection & the honesty.
Thank God we don't have to listen to Kenny Albert, who sounds like he's constipated.

I think CH hit the nail on the head when he said Albert sounds like a kid trying to imitate an announcer. He's awful.
