No. A retired player that you are not paying does not count toward the salary cap. The Spurs chose to waive him.

If Duncan filled out the retirement paperwork and the team did not waive him, they would pay him nothing and they would have that cap space available.

Or not play and still get paid the same? Without the overhead of being a traveling NBA player. which is what he's doing/the point of this thread. Image

Possible Duncan takes this year off, with pay, and then signs another deal next Summer with someone like the Knicks? he'll be 41 next April.

Play in Chiner this/next year, and double-dip, possibly? I dunno. He doesn't seem like a guy who'd be down for living overseas. But who knows.
