Anybody have any thoughts or experience with AirBnb? Thinking of trying it in November in Tampa.

AirBnB is awesome. I've used it in Nashville, Montreal, Tucson, Ireland, Brussels, Vienna, etc. I've pretty much rented "whole property" so we've had the place to ourself. Ireland and Switzerland we rented a room where both places where B&Bs that listed themselves on there.

The satisfaction of your stay depends on your host so the ratings from other guests are very helpful. We had an issue with communicating with our guy in Vienna and AirBnB help worked to get us on the same page. We got a hold of him and him of us and the stay went well.

The part we like about AirBnB is if you're in a large group you can have everyone under the same roof. Then you also have a kitchen/dining room. You can buy some groceries and skip eating out meals.

I haven't used it in the US. I used it a couple of times in Poland and loved it. The one I stayed at in Gdansk was a condo in a mid rise building that had a front desk like a hotel when you walked in and a bar on the ground floor. I don't know why it wasn't considered a hotel.

My kid peed in the bed and we got out while the getting was good, so I wouldn't recommend it to people in the future but my stay was quite pleasant

One thing that would concern me is the possibility of hidden surveillance cameras. Wouldn't want to end up on a sex tape.

Just did our first Air BNB in Ireland in the next few weeks -- so far, sounds great. The owner heard we would be landing in the morning and asked what sorts of breakfast foods he can stock in the fridge for us. A house just seems much more convenient than trying to have the family stay in multiple hotel rooms, and it is significantly cheaper, especially when you consider you can do at the very least breakfasts in the house.
