ok so tonight i went to a rap show @ the ironically-named "elbo[w] room" on lincoln (the irony is that when there's a good turnout there the only thing the place
doesn't have is "elbow room" </McBain> =) and during one of the performers' sets i saw one of the most amazing things i probably never could have even thought up if i tried... [drum roll]
that's right, i saw somebody go and check their phone while they were literally up on a stage performing/rapping/etc! i mean... quoteth keanu reeves: WHOA! then when the next song was all about hustlin like they hustle ol girl hustles her cousin hustles you hustle everybody hustles i was kinda like "hey, i totally believe that they're hustlers! they ain't letting a little thing like a concert get in the way of their ends; you know that phone is money when you're truly doin your thing properly!"
so yeah, plz don't get it twisted like i'm bustin on dude like he did something wrong... "au contrere mon frere, don't you even go there!" - lauryn hill because in terms of getting to a place where we as a culture can have performers up on stage checking their phone in the middle of their performance and it's no big thing, welp, we most likely crossed the rubicon there a long time ago. and honestly hey, if i may be a bit #realtalk-y up in here: i think in terms of their "hustle-n-flow" balance from what i heard they were definitely way more on the "hustle" side of things, but you know at the end of the day that means they're more "real"/#LEGIT/whatever than most and therefore while i might not technically be the biggest fan of how they go about delivering their message, at least i know that the message is coming from a very real place! at the end of the day we're all #JustTryin2Live like devin the dude b4 us, you know?
god bless 'em cuz lord knows i saw plenty of other people perform tonight who'd never generate this much !!! even if they specifically tried to, and these guys here accomplished that without even thinking about it because it just happened naturally like "real [people] do real things" - jay-z & too $hort!
