Correct. This is exactly why it is insane to proclaim Baez as one of the all time great defensive players in the history of the game.

Again...I believe one person and one person only claimed that.

I think Baez could currently be in the Top 2 or 3 and three different infield positions...and for me, that makes him the best current defensive player.

I was unborn and then young when Ozzie Smith played.

Certainly doesn't look like a top 2 or 3 defensive 3B.

yeah.. I got Baez as the best 2nd baseman in the bigs, he's not even top 5 @ 3rd or short. He's not looked impressive at 3rd or short but he looks ridiculous @ 2nd.

You need to consistently watch him play then.

I agree. leash doesn't really count as a full person.

That wouldn't help a person in this argument. They would have to watch all infielders consistently play to make an accurate judgment call. That's why we have different stats and metrics to help us. Those don't show Baez as a top 2-3 defensive 3B.

You're also not comparing similar sample sizes. Additionally, I'd urge you to watch more baseball. There are nationally televised games on almost daily...and several games on most days.

Arrenando or Machado is easily the best glove @ 3rd, Seager or Addy @ short, Baez @ 2nd.

IMU isn't a big metrics guy I guess.

I'm not talking about counting stats, so sample size isn't very relevant. There is simply nothing to suggest Baez is a top 2 defensive 3B. "Watch more baseball" isn't going to change that.

You want metrics?

http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagu ... ding.shtml

Baez had a 6 Rtot at 3B in spite of only 370 IP there. Had he played the same amount of innings as the three 3B who led the category, Baez would have instead lead the category. His RF/9 , while not at the top, slots just below Machado and Arenado...who are considered "the best."

Well, I just gave you an additional counting stat and then an advanced metric.

Additionally, I never said Top 2 3B. I said Top 2-3 at three infield positions. At 2B, he is #1 or #2. At SS, he is #2.....maaaaybe #3. At 3B, he could slot in right now at #3 no questions asked.

I think it's great that they lowered expectations of him by moving him to a much less primary defensive position and he doing ok.

Numbers don't lie.

It's ok. JORR and long time guy also enjoy the eye test.

Looks like ya'll need someone else to argue with...someone who actually said Baez is the best third baseman.

Just think. Someday, Moncada might be a poor man's Javy.

If Moncada is a poor Javy, his tattoos are really gonna suck.
