That's one definition and rather than "derived" I would say "formalized".

I think at the very least you have to accept that they were communalist with no private property and each member being given according to his needs by the group.

Pope attacks mega salaries and bonuses

http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ ... 5151.story
VATICAN CITY, Dec 12 (Reuters) - Pope Francis attacked
mega-salaries and big bonuses on Thursday, saying in the first
peace message of his pontificate that they are symptoms of an
economy based on greed and inequality.

In his message for the Roman Catholic Church's World Day of
Peace, marked by the Church around the world on Jan. 1, he also
called for more sharing of wealth among people and nations to
narrow the gap between the rich and poor.

"The grave financial and economic crises of the present time
... have pushed man to seek satisfaction, happiness and security
in consumption and earnings out of all proportion to the
principles of a sound economy," he said.

"The succession of economic crises should lead too a timely
rethinking of our models of economic development and to a change
in lifestyles," he said.

El Papa ought to stick to saving one soul at a time and leave the heavy economic thinking to Paul Ryan.

Paul Ryan IMO is a military-industrial and austerity ghoul. The recent budget deal, of which Ryan was the GOP chieftian, was mainly done to stop the $20billion defense cuts that were to lead to eventually to $100billion cuts over the next 5 years. You can't cut defense spending cause Obama sponsor General Dynamics, via the Lester Crown family, can't have have its profits cut.

Seacrest can quote a dictionary all he wants. His head is exploding that this new Pope is actually following the extremely liberal teachings of Christ. He has to find any way to discredit him and call him names possible.

El Rushbo is calling the Pope a Marxist. I keep waiting for the Catholic League to step up and defend their beloved leader. We will wait a long time. Why? Because they are hypocritical fuckbags just like Seacrest.

The Pope is doing exactly what we strive to do as a family in our home and the world around us.

And I'll take your word on what Limbaugh has to say. I don't have the time to listen to him that you apparently do.

Trying once again to foment discord where none exists.

Do you need me to explain to you what the word hypocrisy means also?

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Four homeless people, one of them bringing his dog, helped Pope Francis celebrate his 77th birthday at the Vatican Tuesday.

They live on the street in the Rome neighborhood just outside the Holy See's walls and were invited by the Vatican official in charge of alms-giving to attend the morning Mass which Francis celebrates daily at the hotel where he lives on Vatican City grounds, the Vatican said.

One of the men held his dog as he was presented to Francis after the guests chatted following Mass.

The Vatican also said Francis invited his household help to join him in a "family-like" atmosphere, and he spoke of them one by one during his homily.

Francis, who is making history as one of the more informal and down-to-earth popes in recent times, struck a modest note as he reflected out loud about people's roles in the world. "Let the Lord write our history," he said in his homily.

After Mass, all ate breakfast with Francis at the hotel's dining room.

Francis has already blown out the candles on his birthday cake, presented to him on Saturday by children at the Vatican, but another present awaits him. A delegation from his favorite Argentine soccer team, San Lorenzo, will give him a replica of their championship trophy.

Vatican officials said no fixed time was set for the papal meeting with officials and at least one player from the team, which clinched the Argentine championship on Sunday. The delegation flew from Argentina on Monday night on a private plane, to arrive in Rome on Tuesday.

"Arriving on such as special day, like the 77th birthday of the pope, this meeting seems made for God," said the team's vice president Marcelo Tinelli, shortly before departure.

The team delegation might be presented to Francis before or after Wednesday's public audience at the Vatican, although Vatican officials didn't rule out a possibility of a meeting sometime on the pope's birthday.

VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis, celebrating his first Christmas as Roman Catholic leader, on Wednesday called on atheists to unite with believers of all religions and work for "a homemade peace" that can spread across the world.

Speaking to about 70,000 people from the central balcony of St. Peter's Basilica, the same spot where he emerged to the world as pope when he was elected on March 13, Francis also made another appeal for the environment to be saved from "human greed and rapacity".

The leader of the 1.2 billion-member Church wove his first "Urbi et Orbi" (to the city and world) message around the theme of peace.

"Peace is a daily commitment. It is a homemade peace," he said.

He said that people of other religions were also praying for peace, and - departing from his prepared text - he urged atheists to join forces with believers.

"I invite even non-believers to desire peace. (Join us) with your desire, a desire that widens the heart. Let us all unite, either with prayer or with desire, but everyone, for peace," he said, drawing sustained applause from the crowd.

Francis's reaching out to atheists and people of other religions is a marked contrast to the attitude of former Pope Benedict, who sometimes left non-Catholics feeling that he saw them as second-class believers.

He called for "social harmony in South Sudan, where current tensions have already caused numerous victims and are threatening peaceful coexistence in that young state".

Thousands are believed to have died in violence divided along ethnic lines between the Nuer and Dinka tribes in the country, which seceded from Sudan in 2011 after decades of war.

The pontiff also called for dialogue to end the conflicts in Syria, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo and Iraq, and prayed for a "favorable outcome" to the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians.

"Wars shatter and hurt so many lives!" he said, saying their most vulnerable victims were children, elderly, battered women and the sick.

PERSONAL PEACEMAKERS

The thread running through the message was that individuals had a role in promoting peace, either with their neighbor or between nations.

The message of the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem was directed at "every man or woman who keeps watch through the night, who hopes for a better world, who cares for others while humbly seeking to do his or her duty," he said.

"God is peace: let us ask him to help us to be peacemakers each day, in our life, in our families, in our cities and nations, in the whole world," he said.

Pilgrims came from all over the world for Christmas at the Vatican and some said it was because they felt Francis had brought a breath of fresh air to the Church.

"(He) is bringing a new era into the Church, a Church that is focusing much more on the poor and that is more austere, more lively," said Dolores Di Benedetto, who came from the pope's homeland, Argentina, to attend Christmas Eve Mass.

Giacchino Sabello, an Italian, said he wanted to get a first-hand look at the new pope: "I thought it would be very nice to hear the words of this pope close up and to see how the people are overwhelmed by him."

In his speech, Francis asked God to "look upon the many children who are kidnapped, wounded and killed in armed conflicts, and all those who are robbed of their childhood and forced to become soldiers".

He also called for a "dignified life" for migrants, praying tragedies such as one in which hundreds died in a shipwreck off the coast of the Italian island of Lampedusa are never repeated, and made a particular appeal against human trafficking, which he called a "crime against humanity".

Pope's Harley Goes Up For Auction To Help Rome Soup Kitchen

The Vatican plans to auction off one of Pope Francis' two Harley-Davidson motorcycles and donate the proceeds to a soup kitchen that feeds the homeless in Rome.

In June, the pontiff was given two of the iconic motorcycles by the Milwaukee-based manufacturer. At the time, he also blessed a thundering parade of the bikes in Rome in an event to mark Harley-Davidson's 110th anniversary.

The auction, set for Feb. 6 at the Grand Palais in Paris, offers a 2013 1,585cc Harley-Davidson FXDC Dyna Super Glide Custom signed "Francesco" on the fuel tank. The money raised will go to Charitas Roma for the renovation of Don Luigi di Liegro hostel and soup kitchen based at Rome's Termini railway station.

It's unclear whether the pontiff ever rode the motorcycle, which sans the pope's signature is estimated to be worth $16,000-$20,000. But Ben Walker, head of motorcycles at auctioneer Bonhams tells Reuters: "I suspect that it will (have) very limited mileage."

"We hope to be able to do both Pope Francis and Harley-Davidson proud by raising a significant amount of money for a very worthy cause," Walker said.

A leather biker jacket also given to the pope and later signed by His Holiness will be sold separately, according to Reuters.
