If Sox fans can't use 2005, then Bears' fans can't use 1991.

Freshmen in high school right now were kindergartners when the Bears lost the Super Bowl. Kind of a grim way to think about things. This fanbase is long overdue for attrition.

It's a pathetic franchise that will probably never get better unless they trip face first into the next great QB. They had some great rosters in the mid-2000's that went nowhere because the front office never knew what it was doing.

The Bears are the only team I can remember that got to the Super Bowl on the backs of an insane defense, but still lost. The Bears found a way to be the exception that proves the "defense wins championships" rule... I doubt we ever see them put 3 should-be Hall of Famers at the core of a defense without one bad starter.

Somehow my team has gone unmentioned in this discussion. I'll take it!

The Bears are basically the NFC's Miami Dolphins, an irrelevant mess for longer than most fans can remember but still coasting on that sweet name value and that one great year. The Dolphins went to and won more Super Bowls, though.

Undefeated season as well and were one of the AFC's best teams for two decades. Bears not so well. Bad in late 60's most of the 70's great run from 83 to 88 and the couple lucky years in between. No real comparison. Dolphins have had bad ownership since Joe Robbie died.

Came up with a little napkin math for postseasons. I gave each team two points for making the playoffs. Winning the wild card or a first-round bye was worth one additional point. Winning the divisional game was worth another three, winning the conference was worth another six, and winning the Super Bowl was worth another twelve for a total of 24. Obviously, this system isn't perfect, because no Buffalo Bills fan feels losing four Super Bowls is equal to winning two, but weighting each round paints a somewhat clearer picture than just ranking playoff records. So again, since '02:

1 New England 128
2 Pittsburgh 78
3 Indianapolis 68
4 Seattle 67
5 N.Y. Giants 57
6 Green Bay 56
7 Denver 55
8 Baltimore 50
9 Carolina 39
10 Philadelphia 39
11 New Orleans 38
12 Tampa Bay 28
13 San Francisco 27
14 Atlanta 22
15 Chicago 21
16 Arizona 20
17 N.Y. Jets 20
18 San Diego 20
19 Minnesota 15
20 Cincinnati 14
21 Tennessee 14
22 Dallas 13
23 Oakland 12
24 Kansas City 12
25 Washington 9
26 Houston 8
27 St. Louis* 6
28 Jacksonville 5
29 Detroit 4
30 Cleveland 2
31 Miami 2
32 Buffalo 0

So once again, the Bears are firmly in the middle of the pack, though being next to the Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals in this napkin math can't exactly fill you with the pride and joy of Illinois. Essentially, the Bears may have only made three postseasons, but went deep twice, which is still better than the Bengals' seven (!) first-round outs, but not better than the Falcons being sorta good a lot.

Rework to 1960 and you will get totally different results.

At least the Lions are ahead of Cleveland and Oakland.

So, winning percentage since 2002 determines which organization is best today, and going forward?

I'm not trying to make the case that the Lions are a good organization, but that the Bears are really no better. You haven't even come close to explaining how I am wrong.

If you go back to 1960, more than half the teams in the NFL were either in another league or didn't exist yet.

boring white cotton panties hanging out of the top of the jeans in that group. Elvis would have loved it but I expect a little something more.
