Last Father's Day we went to a brand new pizza joint across from the Barrington 30 movie theater. For a long time we were the only customers. The waitress took our order and basically disappeared for 45 minutes after initially doing a good job. When she finally came back out to take another order,my son-in-law asked when the pizza was coming. Her response was:"Why,is there somewhere you got to be?"

I still left that miserable bitch 20%. Well at least my daughter got a good laugh about her husband getting dissed.

Wrong. Every word he said was gospel truth. The expectation of gratuity for even the most meager of efforts is criminal. He might have pushed it a tad farther than it should go, but he was still considerably closer to right than not.

Nah. Even if you are against the tipping system, stiffing the waitress out of a buck doesn't accomplish anything. It's not a principled stand. He was just being a cheap asshole.

Joe shoots first at Orange, White shoots Joe and is immediately shot by NGE but then White shoots NGE before he hits the ground.

In my mind, I like to think that Pink someone got away from the police shootout we faintly hear off screen and is living on a beach somewhere not tipping people and talking about pop songs.

Pink, that bitch dead.

What's superior service? Taking you in the back and sucking your dick?

I don't know what you're used to over at the Blue Oyster Bar but, no, that's not what I meant.

That would certainly warrant at least 50%, though.

Regarding the tipping, I don't mind tipping in industries where it's expected and widely known... but some people get a bit ridiculous regarding the number of people they tip. There are people I work with who will tip six different people between the airport and the hotel when we travel. It's not even about the money... it's just the task of trying to tip every person who does the slightest thing for you. I don't like keeping my head on a swivel to look out for potential tippees.

15% is for bad service, 20% is for good service and 25% is for great service. I dont think I've ever not tipped a server.

I've undertipped for bad service, but never just walked away giving nothing. Most situations, if there's a problem beyond jost the waitress / waiter.

Under tippers are the worst and typically some of the most miserable people.

My husband used to be one and it was embarrassing. He has come around but every once and a while I'll say leave a good one. I get the eye roll and he says he knows and got it. when we go out with his parents sometimes he'll hang back and add to the tip of find the server and give them more.

He has come around on it. Some of it is an attitude that carries between the tipper and tipee. We get very good to great service most of the time.

I only tipped very poorly once and that was at a Denny's where we literally could not get the waitress to give us our check after slow service all meal. I assume she was napping in the back or something. I went up to the front desk, handed them a $10 bill, said "We have been waiting way too long for our bill so here is what I am paying and I'm leaving". They yelled as I was leaving that they were going to call the cops and I told them to go ahead I paid my bill.

I was not drunk either. I also don't know if I've been to a Denny's since.

What it is like not to be drunk or what it is like not to go to Denny's?

Here is a helpful hint for those who are thinking about how good the service is.

The waiter/waitress can only control refills on your drinks. So, if those are slow then they aren't doing a good job(unless it's a really busy bar but bartenders almost always prioritize the wait staff). If those are fast but the food is slow then they can't do a whole lot.

...and getting you your check in a timely manner but that is sometimes strange because some people get mad if you give the check too fast and others get mad if you do it too slow.

Like Vincent Antonelli says "Its not tipping I believe in, its overtipping"

Over tipping is a pretty inexpensive (in most cases) way to make someone's day/shift better. Its worth it.

He/she brings napkins, utensils, condiments, and can answer questions about the menu.

When he/she isn't taking care of these, because he/she is talking to co-workers, or playing on his/her phone, you best believe that he/she is getting a shitty tip from me.

Good service will always result in a 20% tip or higher from me.

My grandpa once got super pissed at his one and only trip to Ed Debevics. He didn't get the gags. Fucking funny. My old man had to leave the tip and grandpa was mad.

If a person makes any type of effort at all to take care of our table then I have no problem tipping well. I know their job is hard and they have to deal with rude ass people all the time.

However, if they are rude, never check on our table, then I have no problem giving way less of a tip. Bad behavior should not be rewarded.

The worst I saw was in a pizza place we took our family too a few years ago. The lady sat us at our table, took our drink orders and then we basically never saw her again. And the place was not that busy. We waited forever just to get our order taken and I had to go ask to get someone to come to our table. The lady finally came out to our table and was very rude and acted like we were bothering her to get our order taken. We never got any drink refills. We never got our check. I had to go talk to a guy at the counter to get our check. I did not leave her a tip at all, and I told the manager about it.
