I mean I think becoming a dad kind of softened him up a bit, but he still has the comedy mojo.

Burr from about 2010 to 2018ish was comedy gold regardless of what angry women on Twitter like Hussra say.

That was great and about as linked to the Not Ready For Prime Time origins of SNL that I have seen on the show in decades.

I like comics like Burr and Chapelle that are pretty much unassailable by the current climate because the collective wisdom has already decided they were great artists. They take on the freedom to continue to push and comment rather than take the Eddie Murphy Daddy Day Care and Shrek route.

as far as bill burr goes that kind of flopped based on the audience reaction.

my kids were in the truck one day and bill burr standup was on and he was talking about spending a saturday with his gf at the farmers market and he talked about punching some ladies muffins. My 2 teenage girls laughed so hard there were tears streaming down their faces. they have talked about that joke for 3 weeks.

Chappelle's uncancellability (yeesh) is not for lack of trying, though, that's for sure. But what he did was smart: he never apologized for himself.

I thought it was very good and I'm surprised Lorne hasn't banned him for life for hurting everyone's feelings. And it's made the worst people online show their asses:

Some of it seemed a little forced like "equator people" but ironically most people seem most upset that he used a bad word.

Finally someone had the courage to make fun or white people and blame them for everything.

I think he's got a point on black history month. is there a reason it's in february?

edit: google machine found this

https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/black-history-month/how-february-was-designated-black-history-month/2301310/#:~:text=Black%20History%20Month%20is%20celebrated,American%20figures%20of%20his%20day.

Quote:
The group chose the second week in February in 1926 to celebrate “Negro History Week.” The week was symbolic in that it was the same week of the birthdays of former President Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, an escaped slave and prominent abolitionist movement activist.

In the late 1960s, the week evolved into an entire month, thanks in large part to the civil rights movement.

It's an outdated idea from a bygone era.

If you can tolerate Opie being the opposite of funny and Anthony's racism, the Opie and Anthony shows on youtube with comedians are great. Tons of Burr, Patrice O'Neal, Colin Quinn, Louis CK, etc

Burr is great

Wasn't Patrice O'Neal a co-host of the show for years?

I started listening to the Rogan podcast,he is on their a lot. He is okay but he early work is the stuff that will make you cry. His 5 min rant about Hitler is spot on. He talks about how pissed off Hitler was after Owens ran circles around the so called master race at the Olympics and his yes men trying to cheer him up lol

I think him bringing that act to network tv is the point you are missing.

He did. Are you actually attempting to make the case Anthony is not racist? haha. He openly admits it.

You just have an auto-racism is bullshit and doesn't exist reflex?

This was a real exchange on the show

Patrice: Im racial, not racist. I talk about racial things. Anthony, you're the same way. You're racial, right?

Anthony: I think I'm more rac-IST, to be honest.

I just watched him in The King of Staten Island. He was pretty good. So was Davidson.

The movie was OK. They could have cut 40 minutes out of it and it probably would have been above average. But, it wasn't bad.

Bill Burr Addresses Anthony’s Racism

Pretty good

And here is Patrice and Anthony arguing about what Obama will do if elected. Anthony way out in front of the white people victimhood complex way back in 07-08

it was weird. other comedians dont do that. it seemed like he mailed it in. nothing original, when he writes new stuff all the time. hes known best for at least appearing off the cuff... but it came off painfully scripted in that opening.

I thought it was fine. He pulled some punches. I’ve read better commentary re: white women high jacking equal rights movements on this board.

If you never heard of Bill Burr before and are middle aged and look to SNL for comedy it was probably really great.

It was just a really toned down version of his last 5 years of stand up

The Sam Adams skit and the Skip Bayless skit were both funny, imo

It was network TV. Everything has to be heavily scripted for clearance.
