Nope. Pass rushers at both positions are difficult to find. You can get run stuffers at both positions in the middle rounds of just about any draft.

Don't worry about it. It is an offensive league now and the Bears have the weapons when this offense matures. If Wilson develops into their speed guy by next year, this group is set.

Long-term I don't like their prospects. I mean if their offense really can be top 5 year-in year-out, maybe. But otherwise that defense is going to be horror-ble.

Well if Bostic and McClellin turn out to be starters, things won't look as bad. Wooton and Paei are still young, and the safeties are young as well, though I don't know if they're bad or just average.

They'll definitely need to develop a star or two at LB and/or the line to become better than average. Perhaps that happens in the draft or free agency.

Hub says put McClellin at Mikebacker. Move Bostic to Will.

Mark it down. That's what needs to happen.

Well, hehe, and I say this knowing what a crap shoot the NFL can be. I mean just look at the difference between last year's Vikings team and this current team, yes the Chiefs could, with some breaks going their way, and again I'm not sold on Alex Smith as anything more than a game manager type quarterback, and Andy Reid, his track record has been one of a coach who has not succeeded much in the playoffs. Again, I know he did make the one Super Bowl with the Eagles but with that talent pool and a good, but not great, quarterback in Donovan McNabb, and please don't call or text telling me Donovan McNabb is a hall of famer. He's not guys. The numbers and lack of playoff success show that. *giggle* Okay, back to my original point. Yes, the Chiefs could make the Super Bowl. But so could the Bears. I know McCown isn't a long-term answer. But look at the 2011 New York Giants. Guys, that was a 9-7 team and they won a Super Bowl. It's not unrealistic to think the Bears could be 9-7. Will they make the Super Bowl? Again, I don't know. It's the NFL guys.

Terry Boers just gave credit for knowing that the defenses would catch up to the offenses when everyone was going crazy at the start of the year.

Hub once again gets another one right!

Hub said Jay will be back next year. Let's see if Hub was right in a few months.

I sort of agree. I do not see a bidding war for Jay and to keep him to 3 years or less and draft all the other needs makes sense. McCown can back up another year as well.

I assume the only teams that would offer Jay big money are those who believe they can win "now" with the right QB. For that reason, I don't think young-ish squads, or teams that want to get younger, will give Cutler a serious look (Cleveland and Jacksonville come to mind). Once you apply that filter, I see the following teams who could look at Cutler:

Arizona
St Louis
KC
Minnesota

Not sure what will happen in the end, but I'm pretty sure those four teams will be looking for an upgrade. Well...if they aren't looking, they definitely should. Might be the right time to finally pull the plug on Bradford in St Louis, and Smith is the QB of an undefeated team in KC, but everyone knows they'll eventually need to score more points than they currently do.

St. Louis should just keep Bradford.
Minnesota will go with a rookie. They'd be dumb not to with how high they are picking.
Kansas City is a possibility, but Alex Smith is still under contract and he's probably not that much worse than Cutler.

Arizona seems to be the logical spot but as you'll hear a lot, this is a great year to draft a QB, and the NFL is filled with rookies who play right away.

Agree on Minnesota, though the operative words here for the other teams are "win now." I don't know enough about those teams to be sure of my assumption that they feel they're in win now mode, but if they are, I can see the rationale in signing Cutler only because they know what they're getting. That doesn't preclude them from drafting a rookie (why not do both? worked in the end for Seattle, though it was costly), but it provides some assurance at the QB spot, even if we can agree that the "assurance" Cutler provides, retrospectively, wasn't worth the hype.

Houston. That'd be a great landing spot for him. Wasn't Kubiak his OC? Or at least it's the Denver system he came into the league with.

If I have a top 10 pick and I need a quarterback I'm not even considering Jay Cutler.

Houston may end up a top 5 pick.

Good point. Draft the right QB and you're set for 15 years as opposed to 5.

I didn't include Houston because I thought they liked the current QB. They could still draft one though.

I guess the recent posts sort of make my thought process. The Bears might really be only negotiating against themselves. I can see his wife wanting AZ to be close to LA but I have heard they both like Chi and he hates LA.
