I hate checking bags. You have to worry about long lines to check it. I waited 1.5 hours to check my bags at LGA once. You have to wait for your bags afterwards. Let me grab my bag and walk out the door.

Any man should be able to pack for any trip of 4 or less days with one carry-on bag.

I like giving my bag to someone and having them carry it. I am on vacation....and it costs less to do it my way, but you get in the cab 10 minutes before me.

Flew them once from Vegas home and it'll be the last time.

Same on all counts.

May I ask what issue you had that was so bad?

The constant advertising of their credit card at the gate and on the flight
Seats don't recline / leg room (I'm 5'11" and 5'8" of that is legs)
Bag fees
No phone app for check-in / gate info
Aisle / window seats cost more (minimal, but still dumb)

Well, I'm usually gone for like 10-15 days at a time, so I just fill a 40-pound bag. I always do the fast bag drop and generally haven't had to worry about lines being too long. When I flew out last month, though, I had a flight out at like 5:15 in the morning. I got there at 3:30. There were probably 500 people awake in the city of Chicago, and 300 of them were in line to check in for Spirit.

My bags are free on United. So are Rachel's. And once a year we get to get super shitty at the United Club. If I wanted crapy service, I'd pay for that...but I don't. When our flight to Paris was cancelled due to the weather, they totally took care of us. Put us up at the Continental in Rosemont, flew us first class to Dulles the next day...with a meal on a 1.5 hour flight  gave me another 15,000 miles and Rachel got a $300 voucher. Basically amounts to a "one-and-a-half-way" flight  for getting to Paris a day late. We "lost" $80 b/c we paid for a night, but they more than took care of us.

I won't fly any other airline unless United doesn't go where I want to.

4 of us flew Spirit to Vegas 2 years ago.

Oversold on the way out, not a biggie, a few airlines do this, but they were REALLY oversold. The bribing/re-secheduling process delayed our flight.
On the way back - they canceled our flight in the middle of the night (morning scheduled departure).
The 4 of us ended up taking 3 different flights back - 2 separate ones into Chicago, 1 into Des Moines. They wanted to charge us $$ for not taking the flight they re-scheduled us to (the following day). We eventually got out of that, but the 2 that flew into Des Moines and then had to drive were not reimbursed for the car/travel.

Have heard many stories like this about Spirit.

Never again.

^Spirit would blame you the customer for choosing them. Now, if you'd like to sit in the gate waiting for the flight tomorrow morning that'll be $25. Thank you!

I just get random seats and take my chances on getting aisle seats so I can swing my legs out a little bit. Usually I have pretty good luck with this, but get stuck toward the back.

Why would anyone fly when you can simply drive a minivan with a big family everywhere.

I have yet to be offered trucker sex in an airplane bathroom.

Its not that they suck, but it's like the least expesnive fare I find on United is still more than a Spirit flight.

dated a girl who worked in the Uninted credit union, she had these buddy passes and we got to go anywhere every weekend. Do they still have that stuff?

What may not be an issue for you could be an issue for others. I don't mind paying more for nicer things - this is evident and consistent with my pathetic humblebrag posting habits. I don't mind paying more for not having to 'deal' with things I don't want to deal with.

I have an American Airlines card...and with it comes nice perks on a nicer airline. I also fly United on many company trips - also a decent airline.

There is nothing worse than a car trip. I'd rather fly united.

United is always one of the most expensive. They do have nice perks, don't know about buddy passes. The cancel flights a lot and shift schedules around. Drives me freaking crazy.

All airlines are bad, anecdotally Spirit is one of the worst. That said, my one time with them (to and from Vegas a few years ago) was great.

*Researched and used the correct size carry on to avoid surcharge
*Bought the bigger seats (well worth the $20 or whatever it was). Flight was perfectly comfortable.
*Had no issue paying what I thought was reasonable prices for beers en route.

Maybe it helped that there were no flight delays, broken equipment or bad weather.

i basically fly frontier and southwest only. i fly frontier because now they fly directly into DE, so when i visit family and friends there, it's super cheap and very convenient. it's also a really short flight...but it's definitely not a very comfortable airline. you have to pay for everything on a frontier flight.

i still prefer southwest to everything else. everyone seems to know what they're doing, and even the ones who don't seem to be amused with the idea of flying so much that they're not bothered by anything. i haven't even seen a lot of the overzealous "comedienne" flight attendants in recent years of flying with them.

i would never fly spirit airlines. any airline that sounds close to what happens after you die does not appeal to me.

No one does.

Though, on my flight to Europe, American served a restaurant quality meal in coach. I was shocked at how good it was.

I mean, its better than gas station food. Where else can you pay $30 a person for a sammich, fries/side, and a drink at such fine establishments as Ruby Tuesdays, Chili's, and Jack Daniels Grill?

I've cattle car on SWA for so long. Post divorce I was living Up In Air for a while. Mainly SWA. I just stopped caring. Is Spirit a good option over that mess? I only care about getting there on time and not losing luggage. United lost my bags in Maui and I was pissed.
