Annoying.

Sounds like that gas valve might need to be replaced. I'm assuming the tech didn't bother to do the electrical tests I recommended.
Relight your pilot. The pilot flame should be strong, blue, and impinging on the tip of the thermocouple. The thermocouple probably will glow red.
It's time to replace that piece of shit. It's probably older than Seacrest, and just as useless.

But how does the pilot stay lit if the thermocouple is bad?

It wouldn't. Maybe for a bit. But not for long.

He is a maintenance guy; wouldn't call him an HVAC tech or anything. Supposedly he does all the HVAC stuff though. I didn't see any sort of voltmeter or anything when he was here on Sunday.

I re-lit the pilot. It is hardly blue at all. The first time I held the pilot down for a minute after the flame was lit, and it went out immediately. The second time, I had to hold it down for 3 minutes for it to stay lit so I could move it to the on position. The pilot light is mostly orange, with the only blue at its base.

So, with the thermocouple having been replaced and my description, probably the gas valve you'd say?

edit: This next part sounds dumb but:

Last week I purchased a whole room humidifier as my apartment is getting really dry in the winter. It is rated for up to 1000 sq foot, I have a 725 sq foot apartment. Anyway, I keep the humidifier sort of near the air return / furnace (though the furnace is of course enclosed off of the main apartment space). I set the desired humidity between 40-45% in the apartment when I get home from work / overnight. Before this humidifier, the pilot light never went out. I HIGHLY doubt what I'm about to suggest as a possibility is even possible...but is the increase in humidity and proximity of the humidifier to the furnace a contributing factor?

No, more than likely the problem is a dirty pilot orifice. You can fix this if you have a 7/16 in wrench, a 3/16 inch wrench and a channel locks. Or you can tell them that they need to clean the pilot assembly.
Course, it still could be a weak gas valve providing weak pilot gas but that doesn't really happen too often. I think the pilot is dirty.

No, your humidity shouldn't really affect the pilot. You're ok there.

This is a picture of the pilot light as it currently stands. This is about the same as it was when I lit the pilot light.

Kind of hard to see but again the pilot should be a strong blue jet, kind of like a fighter jet afterburner, for visual sake.

From all I gather I bet the pilot and orifice is dirty. If your maintenance guy can't get this shit resolved I'll do it but I want some dinero. I'll do it for $1204.23. I make deals if there's cash involved.

If it doesn't get done this next time, I'll pay you to do it. I heard you were the best at cleaning a variety of orifices.

But not $1204.23. I at least want the 10% CSFMB discount. :P

So, mine is even weaker than the one on the left, if the photo I took does not convey that.

Mine looks very similar to:

...actually, weaker even still. That one has more blue than mine.

I will request the pilot and orifice be cleaned.

Dude you got a set of wrenches? Alls you need is a 7/16ths, (for the pilot tubing), a 3/16th (for the thermocouple), a channel locks (to hold the pilot assembly while unscrewing the pilot tubing from the pilot assembly). Maybe a small piece of wire to clear the orifice. Usually a good blow does it. (see spaulding??? it really does work.)

I have about 30 different screw drivers between phillips, flat head, and torx, but not one wrench. I used to have an adjustable wrench...not sure where it got to. Same with the locking pliers.

I think I'd also need to remove the box housing around the pilot light. No way to access the stuff without it.
