I'm cool because I'm cool.

I'm a "productive member of society", clinging to religion and raising kids to respect authority. In a way, you are correct. I am part of the problem.

If she is a single mom, then she is in the street fighting for the soul and future of her child.

That's fine and its good she went out there to address the issue but its still preferable to have a kid grow up in a tough neighborhood and resist falling into it.

I'm not ripping the mom, I'm giving a shout out to the many parents in tough situations who do a remarkable job

Oh I think it was clear he was in on the destruction.

But yes many in this country seemingly consider protesting of any kind to be a bad thing. Respect authority

I had the same thought but like I said more of a positive nod to the ones who raised kids who didn't participate

Its true, sometimes parents do everything they can and kids still break baf

I wish more parents were like this one. God bless her.
Why are parents so afraid to hit their kid anymore? It's not like he was hurt physically? He learned his lesson I bet.

I don't generally believe in getting physical with kids but I'm also not one of the "how dare you spank your child" people

With that said I believe most studies indicate its not a good solution and the child won't learn the lesson

Which Jesus are you talking about?

Hard to follow Christ in that way. He respected authority to the point of letting them kill him.

But I'm talking about violence. Many are critical of non violent protests

because they are NON violent or because they are protests? Anyone opposed to non-violent protest is beyond a reasonable thought and should be ignored.

Just that they are protesting. Like the Michael Brown ones where they fucked up traffic without violence.

Always has been. I watched a doc on the Kent State murders last night. Nixon called the protestors "bums" and most of the people interviewed at the time said, "they should have shot them all".

History and hindsight are interesting. I don't think you could find many people that think the murder of those students was righteous today. And the night before the killings students were all over Kent smashing windows and destroying property. I'm not sure if they were called "wild animals" though.

How delightfully assholish of you to be a condescending asshole. If you think running down a street hitting and swearing at your almost adult child is a good way to parent good for you. I do not, and I'm going to guess this method did not start yesterday.

I understand the visceral reaction to this video and people "applauding" this woman's parenting skills. Take a step back and ask yourself this: The young man was expressing himself in a violent manner; I wonder where he learned this behavior? Smacking your child in the head and cursing him out publicly is not an expression of love and concern. The mother is reacting in the only way she knows, thru violence upon her child. Should anyone be surprised that the child would act out in violence as he has learned from his mother?

There's a subtle or not so subtle implication that that's what you need to do to get African-Americans "in-line," so if some cops do the same thing, well that's what needed to be done.

No, you're right ... in the middle of a riot she's gonna have a nice sit-down chat right there in the streets with the young man to discuss the potential pitfalls of the foolish choice he was making ... maybe violins could play them off the stage as they walked back home looking towards a better life, a choir sings, credits roll, fin.

No one here in this thread.

I don't think that is how most cops feel either.

That kid was all geared up to steal as soon as the sun set, That kids mom was telling his stupid ass to take that shit off n get his ass home...she was obviously panicked n concerned. At least she has concern for her child..a lot of women in that community don't give a fuck what their kid is up to.
