Every year, in both Donspiracy's contest here, and my yahoo nfl pickem, SH picks favorites almost exclusively. He is near the bottom of the standings every year, except 2013, where an abnormal number of favorites covered.

Yeah, I'm usually pretty near the top of those pickems. I'm pretty awesome. But my system involves not picking hard favored road teams, and picking many high spread road dogs.

Hey Chus can I play this year?

I was diehard all year.

For those looking for the hatthe payers where wearing up until victory it is in the Center Ice collection I believe it is the Draft night hat?

Sure. I will give everybody the info when yahoo opens up the NFL pickem. Most likely sometime in July or August.

Thanks Gays!

As I have said all year, the Hawks have the best team, best roster, & the best coach in the NHL. The Hawks will be the favorites to win the Stanley cup for many years to come. The youth movement next year is going to be great!

They don't have the best coach. Toronto does.

A shoutout for a chalk player predicting that the chalk would win?

Babcock has won just 1 stanley Cup.

Chalk was the Rangers.

If there was a coach draft, every GM in the NHL would take Babcock with the first pick. He is the Belichick of the NHL.

I wonder how many non-Hawks games Scorehead has watched during the last six years. My guess is not many. This certainly wouldn't be the first time that he has a strong, yet uninformed opinion.

As usual your assumptions about me are wrong. I really dont understand your angst with me.
I watch 2 - 3 non Hawks ganes each week during the season. I'm a long time hockey gay going back to the mid 1970's. Hockey suspassed football as my favorite sport years ago.

It's really just a universal truth of today's NHL coaching that you will overplay old plugs and piss off all the dorks who obsess over young players. Faults aside, it's an elite coach who got a lot out of Detroit's diminishing returns. That said, unless Babcock presides over a dynasty in Toronto, Quenneville will be remembered in higher regard between his dynasty in Chicago and his very good years in St. Louis (he had a couple decent years in Denver too that no one really talks about).

I was just about to post something similar to this. I know a lot of guys in hockey town who said good riddance when Babcock left. Many people there feel that he failed with a few teams that should have won.

You can argue Babcock and Q either way all day. There is a shelf lif for coaches as well or else Riley would be with Lakers and Phil with Bulls. As for Q I will just go numbers. He is number 3 all time.

In Donspiracy's contest for 2014, Scorehead made 104 picks. 78 were favorites, 24 were underdogs, and 2 were pickems. His record was 49-54-1.

I am correct that he is A) a chalk player, and B) wrong more than he is right.

He won a cup, and got to another final.

Which years should he have won? If you watched hockey as much as you claim, then you would understand how many injury plagued seasons they endured. It was an unbelievable feat to even get to the playoffs with some of the jokers that they were putting on the ice. And this is coming from a Red Wings fan.

It took five minutes. I find simple addition to be very easy.

I was asked to provide proof to back up my statement, so I did. You should try that sometime, instead of making grand proclamations, based on nothing more than your personal feelings and prejudices.

Maybe not good riddance, but I picked up a certain feeling of resignation about it, like he took the team as far as he was going to take it and even the best coaches have expiration dates, so so long and thanks for all the fish. At any rate, Babcock had the Red Wings playing with a level of artistry and awareness that just didn't look like the way most other teams played, and not only that, he'd been doing it with a procession of AHL callups and graduates who, while talented, were a far cry from their blank-check glory days. Guy fuckin' loved him some Dan Cleary, though; I'll never get that as long as I live.

The way I see it, NHL coaching breaks down roughly thus:

Elite: Babcock, Quenneville, Sutter
Very good: Laviolette (borderline elite), Hartley, Julien, Cooper, Vigneault
Pretty good: Bylsma, McLellan, Therrien, DeBoer, Yeo, Boudreau, Maurice
Probably not going to add any net value: whoever else I didn't name
GTFO of the league forever: Tortorella, Oates

That sound about right?

It was no secret that he wanted to coach in Toronto.

This is what Scorehead fails to understand. It's all black and white with him. Three cups > one cup. After the injuries, and the retirement of Lidstrom, Babcock had Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, and a bunch of Grand Rapids Griffins for a few years. Q wouldn't have won three cups with those teams.

Curious Hair wrote:

He loved him some Todd Bertuzzi, as well. He was routinely playing on the top line, and getting out there in shootouts.

You forgot about your guys Dave Tippett, Ken Hitchcock and Barry Trotz

They probably deserve their own section with Therrien. Their brand of hockey sucks but they provide a floor of competency for their teams (unless they're actively tanking like PHX). Call it "Competent" or something.

I don't know what to make of Lindy Ruff.

Ruff is good. His teams play hard for him and he's had some success with less than elite rosters.

Ruff is a poor strategist but excellent motivator. That describes Ted Nolan, but Ted Nolan doesn't belong in the NHL. Kinda feeling the same way about Tippett lately. I don't think there's a place for a coach as youth-averse as he is. The Coyotes are gonna fuck up their entire rebuild, watch. They just pushed someone out of their ownership group for wanting a full-scale rebuild. They're goin' bum-shopping.

I had Trotz and Hitchcock in mind for "adds no net value."
