So you've never heard of monks living in a monastery then?

As I said ... blind people arguing colors.

I don't know how many Islamic extremists there are, but there are assuredly less Christian monks than there are Islamic terrorists.

And monks are as silly as nuns which are as silly as hijabs which are as silly as not eating beef on fridays.

I couldn't possibly guess as to what your second post has to do with the previous one of yours quoted here. I'm guessing the emoticon was employed as a means to somehow distract from that.

Great analogy... my entrance into Heaven is completely dependent on catching all 150 of them. If I only catch 80 something or don't catch them the correct way....I'm damned to go to hell.

You brought up monks as if they were of some significant importance to Catholicism. I'm sure there are about 0.001% Catholic males that observe chastity and poverty through their vows. How does that compare to women within the hierarchy of Catholicism?

If you catch them all, then the 72 virgins you would have had on earth will forever remain out of your grasp. Too bad you spent all that time chasing the 150 characters.

No, you were positing there was no male equivalent to nuns which is, obviously, incorrect.

so nuns minister to the poor, teach, run shelters for battered women, feed the hungry across the planet in part b/c there's a chance they'll be rewarded in the after-life?

pokemon go players chase pokemons ...for no particular reason, other than google tells them to?

which one of these is being snookered and wasting their time again.

or maybe both groups do what they do for legitimate reasons. the former wouldn't necessarily stop their good works if you provided absolute proof there was no after-life: the doing of the good-works is its own reward, in the here and now. and for pokemon go players, the chasing of the pokemon is ancillary to the social and group aspects of pokemon go: a sense of belonging and social engagement. not dissimilar to why many people go to church and observe some of the sillier practices of their respective faiths. e.g, the social activity of the Friday fish fry during lent.

And I appreciate you also confirming the significant disparity between males and females taking those types of vows. There might also be a sect of Muslim males that wear headscarves. If so, it proves that Hijabs are not related to gender in the least!

Once again, do you not understand the difference between a voluntary position taken as an adult and one that is built in by birth?

Thread of the year right here. So many never before shared perspectives and discussions which are changing the minds of all involved. I'm merely a spectator, but it is an honor to read 13 pages of the most awe inspiring conversations one can ever hope to find on the Internet.

If a Chicago based sports message board can't evaluate and define the nuances of religion, idk who can.

If it was instituted by the religion, maybe you'd be correct. But hijabs are specific to certain countries / cultures. Turkey...Europe...U.S....Egypt... scarcely a hjiab to be found. In fact...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hijab_by_country

Many Muslim majority countries DISCOURAGE the use of hijabs.

So on one hand, we have the religion of Catholicism dictating that woman who choose to become nuns MUST wear some crappy garments...and then on the other hand we have a few Islamic states stating women should wear headscarves or other types of clothing.

Let's see, who should we trust on this one, the al-Islam website or the half-ass Lutheran from Schaumburg?
