You guys are weird. Of course she is wrong but why would you not expect an elected position to be 50-80k?

I was just pointing out that she wasn't hurting for money. She was basically a Rowan County 1%'er.

You teach, or have taught, in a Catholic school and won't afford someone else the right of conscience you take for yourself and teach to your students.

You may want to back away from the keyboard now. You have the most hypocritical stance of anyone in the discussion.

I have taught 11 years of religion. Morality/History of Catholic Church at various times depending on the book I was using. The message would simply be if they were truly offended they should resign from the job. Pretty much everything Regular Reader has said about this I agreed with.

And that's when Seacrest will retract any negativity towards those saying she is just out for money right? ;-)

Won't I need to say something negative about it first?

How do you arrive at that conclusion?

It's an educated guess based on her behavior and the time she's been in church. Did you see her speech today? It looked so fake.

No I didn't.

And do really expect me to believe that a minister would exploit a person or persons for their own ends?

A better question would be what the fuck the question has to do with anything. But whatever. It's not worth discussing.

A few things...

I don't think this goofy broad is really sporting "conservative" views. I'm a conservative and I can't disagree with her more than I already do. None of my conservative buddies thinks this is the way to be. This is hard core way over yonder conservativism. Not real conservatives. Or republicans or whatever you want to call them.

Once again bigotry is encouraged by religion. Again, I love me some god but gottamn if I don't find myself disgusted by the people who supposedly spread his word.

My cousin "found" Jesus about a year ago and she has been spouting this bigoted crap for months since the SC decision. Her and her little ministry friends have been deciding who will burn and who will not for months now. Course, she's got a child she conceived out of wedlock and that's cool but god forbid a woman wants to marry her girlfriend.

This is not necessarily a religious wedding. More to the point it is a civil union. It has nothing in the world to do with your religious beliefs. It's about gaining legal rights with your partner of choice. It's about their love for each other. Stop letting your own ideas of marriage involving god cloud your judgement of how others perceive their relationship with their partner and/or god.

I am so sick of people justifying their bigotry thru the Riz and God himself. I can't imagine that he would find that amusing when the final chapter is written. Some day these bigots will have to stand before the man and explain why they thought it was THEIR place to pass his judgement.

I agree with you, sort of. There are certainly a large number of conservatives who don't feel like this. But I would also argue that the meaning of "liberal" and "conservative" is constantly changing. Sure, there are set definitions of Classic Liberals or Republicans from certain time periods, but there really is no set definition. I think it's important for conservatives with a voice to speak out against this type of stuff so that the party or the ideology isn't representated by people like Mike Huckabee. Same goes with religion... other religious people need to speak out against this to maintain respect for those who aren't insane.

But, generally, I agree - Conservative is not synonymous with religious nut job, at least not in my mind... but that doesn't mean it never could be.

It is a public sector job. Religious beliefs should have no place in violating policies set forth by the government. If you don't lie the laws that have changed quit. The only way her argument might be valid is if she was being forced to make the church/churches that let her get married 4 times marry the gay couple.

If a Catholic were to deny a marriage license to a gay couple you would also have to be ready to deny a marriage license to someone who was divorced, but did not obtain an annulment. If we actually took the time to discuss this in class I would then have to field questions from the half of class with divorced or single parents. Which would then lead to at least one email from a pissed off parent telling me to mind my fucking business.

Which is why we focus on personal responsibility, treatment of others and service in the community.

Wait, you mean you don't promote bigotry under the guise of "religion"? What a concept.

Seacrest,
Does gay marriage being legal in the United States violate your rights in any way?
