A few things...

I don't think this goofy broad is really sporting "conservative" views. I'm a conservative and I can't disagree with her more than I already do. None of my conservative buddies thinks this is the way to be. This is hard core way over yonder conservativism. Not real conservatives. Or republicans or whatever you want to call them.

Once again bigotry is encouraged by religion. Again, I love me some god but gottamn if I don't find myself disgusted by the people who supposedly spread his word.

My cousin "found" Jesus about a year ago and she has been spouting this bigoted crap for months since the SC decision. Her and her little ministry friends have been deciding who will burn and who will not for months now. Course, she's got a child she conceived out of wedlock and that's cool but god forbid a woman wants to marry her girlfriend.

This is not necessarily a religious wedding. More to the point it is a civil union. It has nothing in the world to do with your religious beliefs. It's about gaining legal rights with your partner of choice. It's about their love for each other. Stop letting your own ideas of marriage involving god cloud your judgement of how others perceive their relationship with their partner and/or god.

I am so sick of people justifying their bigotry thru the Riz and God himself. I can't imagine that he would find that amusing when the final chapter is written. Some day these bigots will have to stand before the man and explain why they thought it was THEIR place to pass his judgement.

I agree with you, sort of. There are certainly a large number of conservatives who don't feel like this. But I would also argue that the meaning of "liberal" and "conservative" is constantly changing. Sure, there are set definitions of Classic Liberals or Republicans from certain time periods, but there really is no set definition. I think it's important for conservatives with a voice to speak out against this type of stuff so that the party or the ideology isn't representated by people like Mike Huckabee. Same goes with religion... other religious people need to speak out against this to maintain respect for those who aren't insane.

But, generally, I agree - Conservative is not synonymous with religious nut job, at least not in my mind... but that doesn't mean it never could be.

Quote:

It is however synonymous with religion. The terms conservative and liberal were originally religious terms. They were terms that were used to reference a person's religious indoctrination. If you were a person that interpreted the bible in the literal sense you were considered to be a conservative. If you played fast and loose with the bible you were considered liberal. The Catholic Church was heavenly involved with these interpretations, as they mostly applied to one's interpretation of Catholicism. At some point they were applied to the political arena and the rest is history.

But that's not at all how they are used today. If someone self-identifies as a "liberal", they are almost certainly not referencing how they interepret the Bible.

Very often though conservatives are immediately lumped in with evangelical dopes like Huckabee or worse.

Kim Davis should move to Saudi Arabia. There, religion trumps the courts.

The problem is that when they are candidates, even those who don't wear religion on their sleeves pander to the religious nuts. Remember Bush at Bob Jones University? McCain with John Hagee?

Democrat or not, she doesn't seem to have liberal views. Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz were the dopes that met her after her release.

I think you missed the point of the picture.

That's really not fair. Most Republican and conservatives don't feel this way.
We should not be dividing on these things.

Of course, every conservative doesn't feel that way. But, there are many people who fit the description in that picture.

What does pointing out that she is a Democrat have to do with anything? That has been said many times in this thread.

There is for more division from bigots like Kim Davis, than that picture.

Most don't. It's not a conservative thing. It's a bigotry thing. Bigots come in many political affiliations.

Right, but the people that defended the cops who killed Eric Garner, and the people who defend Kim Davis identify as conservatives. I think you are reading way too much into the picture. Nobody is accusing you of anything.

No maybe not but I don't think labeling people as on one side or the other only and furthering the misconception that because a couple idiots identify as conservatives that thusly identifies conservatism is the right thing to do.

Conservatives aren't your enemy. We should be United against our common enemy. Don't start labeling people and making assumptions based on some people because that's what bigots do and I know that's not you.

I doubt anybody has lost sight of what is important regarding Kim Davis, and the bigots who defend her, simply from the existence of that picture.

No. Obviously not from that picture. But we both know that picture is representative of more than just a simple single picture. It's a result of a mindset that I'm learning more and more needs to be transcended. A divisive, destructive mindset that weakens us.

Chus... this reminds me of when people as if they should leave their blower motors running or if they should be in auto to preserve motor lifespan. I always tell customers that there's two schools of thought... that there's a limited number of turns in any motor and that it's not the running but the starting and stopping that kills motors. There is no consensus. No one really knows for sure. As there is no true answer I believe that there isn't one.

I dunno maybe that makes no sense but it seems an appropriate story based on how I feel about this topic.

I appreciate your take on this DS, but conservative radio (which I realize is not representative of all conservatives) frequently says otherwise.

I wouldn't know. I don't listen to conservative radio.

Perhaps I'm not a conservative.

Either way, I don't trust pretty much anyone leading this country right now.
