Yeah, they basically have zero bad songs. It's impressive.

It is fairly common to say that the Beatles influenced pretty much all music that exists today outside of rap, and some will even argue that.

Strawman fallacy: a sham argument set up to be defeated.

Keep that "it is fairly common" and "some will argue" bullshit for when you're trying to impress your IDIOT FRIENDS. You're basically using the same type of gimmick an anti-vaxxer would use. For example, I'll slightly paraphrase your sentence to illustrate:

It is fairly common to say that the thorium used in vaccines has had an influence on the rise in autism that exists today, while some will even argue that it's the residual formaldehyde used to process the vaccines.

Find me some informed and educated music critics or historians that remotely suggest what you're saying; don't invoke some nebulous 'others' as some horseshit cover for your opinion, regardless of whether it's terrible or not.

And to obviate your next move of asking "are the Beatles the greatest / most influential band ever", the answer is (a) irrelevant, and (b) no.

Thank you for providing what a straw man is. Now, here is a discussion I was forced to have on the very board(or at least the board the previous guy owned and then kind of sold it) we are on.
http://score670.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=84&t=91421&start=30

So, the rest of your post looks pretty dumb since I had to defend against that very thought on this very board. Strawman? Nowhere man did I do that.

So, it's not about influence, but you're posting about influence. 'BRick Jauron' everyone!

Just say you don't like the Beatles and be done with it. That's fine. It's not a crime. Beyond that, I don't know what your point is now or even then, other than you were arguing with spanny about something which, while often a hallmark of being right, doesn't really mean anything this time around.

Look at Don Tiny taking a quote well out of context! Bonus points for the fact that you act like those two quotes, which were in two different discussions, somehow are contradictory.

I backed up my claim against your straw man charge where multiple people had major issues with my statement that to you seems like a ludicrous suggestion.

I'll post my opinions how I want. If you want, just say you like The Beatles and be done with it. I'll keep on posting with others who put up a lot more convincing argument than you are.

The odds are pretty astronomical that the few people in the world who think that also happen to post here.

However, I'm fine with it if you guys are arguing that virtually no one thinks The Beatles were influential to most other music that followed. Maybe W_Z can grant me the ability to discuss music again since I seemingly was right!

Worth nothing, but a $900,000 check does come along with the award, so there's that.

Saw him at the Aragon in 2009. I'll admit that the show didn't sound that great. Bad enough in parts that I didn't know that
he sang one of my favorite songs in the middle of the show until I saw the set list afterwards. Worth it to be 30 ft
away from the guy and he did play some of the songs well. He's a bizzare performer as he rarely if ever acknowledges
the crowd at all. He just gets up there, does his thing, and leaves. I'd be ok with him hanging it up. I will not spend
any money to see a concert of his again. Still love listening to the bootlegs and rarities from the 60s and 70s.

edit: His backing band is excellent

My friend Mike who is about ten years older than I am saw him in the early/mid 70s, maybe at the Amphitheater. But he always mentions that he thought at the time it would be his last chance to see him.

The problem is that all of his songs have been re-arranged for his live performances. You could be listening to "Like a Rolling Stone", and you don't even realize his band is playing it until about 3/4ths of the way through the song.

Yes, this is very true. I've learned a lot about how he changes up the songs with all of the Bootleg Series matierial I've purchased over the past 5 years.
A lot of it is from the studio where he will do the same song 5 times but all in different chords and tempos. Sometimes it works and sometimes it comes
off like a hot mess. For one I wasn't expecting him to play "Every Grain Of Sand" which is a bit of a rarity, but I honestly never picked it up at all. Ballad of
a Thin Man, Rolling Stone, All Along the Watchtower he did pretty straight up. Tangled Up in Blue was also done well. The rest was pretty forgettable for me.
He also used to change up his set list nightly. Now when I check, it is the same set list every night with very little change. Just mailing it in it seems. I have
not bothered to listen to his last couple Sinatra albums.

I heard the prize was for literature ... I read it here ... but my melon didn't actually process it until now. Maybe I was lazy and quit listening after 'Nobel Prize' and presumed it was for Peace, which is a pretty nebulous award but not too terribly hard to think might be given to Dylan, I guess.

But 'Literature'? Really?

Bob Dylan's an alright cat, no doubt.

A Nobel Prize for Literature?

That's just fucking dumb.

What is it, a decade maybe, before they give a Nobel Prize for literature to some asswipe that writes blogs?

Rudyard Kipling
Hermann Hesse
TS Eliot
Saul Bellow
Bob Dylan :?

Whatever.

I just heard audio of the announcement on a rerun of the news. It sounded like they were giving the Nobel prize to Bob Vila.
