. . . which is far different than the point that SHARK's articulated. He's not arguing that Eli isn't an all-time great - his point is that Manning is on the same level as Rex Grossman. I'm hoping he's going to expound on this point further after he sees this thread.

your bandwagon has consisted of mark prior, rex grossman, and donovan mcnabb. i think most people are content riding their bicycle behind it for a while...keeping their eyes open for the discarded falderal.

I dont know about all time great or hall of fame but were your eyes not impressed by his 5,000 yds this year?

He was great this year

but understand what Nas is saying, this is a guy who is not the best QB nor in the same category as the best in the league at the time he is playing

Anyway, the Eagles will win the division next year and people will be calling for Coughlin's and Manning's head.

eli had a career year and won his second superbowl...you have to move him up the list after this season.

He was great this year, but I think he needs to keep this pace up for awhile. If he misses the postseason three years in a row following this SB too I think people will realize he lacks the consistency for the Hall.

If you started a thread that was actually about Joe Namath, Joe Orr Road would immediately begin talking about Johnny Unitas for ten pages.

There are a few of us here worldly enough to see right through your obnoxious old school New Yorker contempt for the Jets. The fact that Namath's singular victory was far greater than any by Y.A. Tittle or Rex Grossman Jr. is precisely my point.

The Jets are a mosquito, and the Glorious Four (4) Time Super Bowl Champion New York Football Giants are a mighty elephant.

Imagine if an AFC team was placed in Chicago in 2012. Who could say that the new AFC team was their "favorite" team? Lunatics, that is who.

The New York Jets fan base is like Australia - populated by the unwanted cast offs of decent society.

I've always wondered about those people who are Met and Jet fans as they seem to have the same fan base. Why would you actively deny a team with history, success and good ownership?

You may have a point on the Mets, but the Jets and Giants weren't that much different in terms of success prior to the recent run of Eli Super Bowls.

How do you figure? The Giants have been a more successful franchise in almost every way.

Queens is like a penal colony. I think they filmed Papillon there.

Still failing to realize the NFL existed before 1967? Shocking.

You wouldn't, but stoneroses represents a certain type of New Yorker. Old school starched collar motherfucker is probably descended from Peter Minuit. That type of guy doesn't even want to acknowledge that things called the Jets or Mets even exist.

Nobody cared about it until 1958. And it really stepped forward in '67. I've got some old Sports Illustrateds from the fifties that don't even mention pro football. They've got articles on preparing eggplant, hunting mountain lions, training pointing dogs, harness racing, and sailing. But no pro football. Then Broadway Joe came along.

I was just thinking that this thread needed more mountain lion hunting talk. Thank you.

yeah except he's really a nutmegger! you know, i still have a little of the upstate new yorker in me. drinking is on my mind a lot, i have a reflex mechanism to defend utica whenever i can, and i think nova scotia is the real disney world, ay? oh yah, oh yah...

we should get one of those assholes from that commercial years ago that go to every super bowl and ask them what they think on this subject. they'd be experts for sure.

Strange way to make a point at a board mostly populated by White Sox fans.

That's a bingo!

If Jets fans are members of a penal colony, Giants fans are members of a country club--rich, white, and perpetually obsessed with their own embodiment of long-defunct ideals of gentility.

I don't believe you or JORR. I've known 4 die hard Giant fans in my life and all 4 completely miss the stereotype you guys are aiming for. Once again, stereotyping fans is fun for comedy, but if you're trying to do it while making a serious point you end up looking stupid.

As Carlin would say.. "Fanbases are like any other demographic of people, a few winners and a whole lot of losers."

I'm not stereotyping. I'm talking about a specific guy who has a long history of posts here. His contempt for the Jets is obvious. He's actually confirmed my description himself in this thread if you've read the entire thing.

Do you think the old line NFL teams are superior to the ones that merged in from the AFL?

I understand you're trying to help your borderline "Joe belongs in the Hall" case but everything you just said is irrelevant to my disagreement of Rick's post. Post-Super Bowl the Giants have been better than the Jets and pre-Super Bowl it obviously was night and day. The Giants as a franchise have been more successful than the Jets in every conceivable way.

There's nothing to believe or disbelieve. I know plenty of Jets fans and none of them ever lived in Australia. That was kind of the point.

Laugh out loud! I never said that one single Jets fan ever lived in Australia.

Australia, however, is relevant in that it was populated by convicts who were cast off by decent society. Similarly, when the Jets (nee Titans) were founded, normal, decent people remained fans of the established Giants, while ne'er-do-wells and lunatics embraced the upstart league and franchise.

There is no comparison whatsoever between these franchises.
