Child abuse is not open handed slapping your 16 year old boy. He can take it. She was not hurting any more than his pride bone there anyhow. His friends will never let him live that shit down. He might as well go straight from here on out cause mama done took his street creds.

Some kids avoid doing stupid shit because they know they shouldn't act that way, others avoid doing dumb shit because of the potential consequences. It just depends on the kid.

I avoided doing (overly) stupid shit because my dad would literally kick the shit out of me. He's over 70 now and I'm pretty sure he could still kick my ass. He's a monster. Dude has arms like fucking popeye.

Dad spanked me once (can't remember what I did)...after that, if I started to get out of line, he just had to give me that look and I promptly quit fucking around and made sure my ass was glued to the nearest wall or chair I could find.

I was the same way. I did have a couple friends who would get their ass kicked for doing dumb things and it had no effect on them. There is no one size fits all way to get kids to do the right thing. Dealing with kids 10-18 everyday some you can talk to when they do something bad and they will stop. Others need something taken away (recess, playing time etc) others need a phone call home and some just need the threat of the phone call home. Its about finding what motivates them to do the right things.

I can't recall ever hitting my son except maybe when he was tiny and on a diapered bottom like stay away from that camp fire. I have a look with him though that he knows not to cross. It helps that coaching him and rough housing through the years I have shown him enough special moves that mean you are puddy in my hands should I choose to kill you immediately.

When my then 16 year old son took a swipe at my wife I took him down in a headlock and put his ass on the floor. He told the school next day and I had to go through all the bullshit. Nothing came of it but it is all a bunch of shit. School, cops, state agencies. Mess of shit.

Late to school and looking disheveled. They asked what was going on. He told them we had an incident. They had to report to state and on and on and on.

My son would have not made it to school a couple days until the black eye was gone.

I was assuming this was his mom.

My father has already passed away :( and I still believe he would whoop my ass. I am fairly certain my son knows that too, but it has never happened nor do I anticipate that situation. I am also a divorced single father.

I don't think you can make that comparison,it's not the same. I don't think what the mom did was right either.

 Right because beating a 4 year old kid hard enough to leave welts is the same as whacking your dumbass 16 yr old son and dragging him away before he is about to commit a felony by throwing rocks at police. Edit: What Bagels said.

Wow, can we use that as evidence that protests should only go until 7 PM, then they are considered riots and are illegal?

No, legal non violent protests shouldn't be restricted

MAYBE part of the reason that kid felt enough anger, hatred and despair to participate in the riots is that his mom has been kicking his ass his whole life.

Lots of people who have had parents beat the shit out of them throughout their childhoods often feel similarly....myself included.

wait a minute... what the mom did WAS right. you are correct, different situations... and much different ages... peterson gave bruises to a child that, because of his age, couldn't possibly done anything to warrant that. plus, bruises are bruises, you just shouldnt give those to a child.

this mom slap around her teenage son AFTER he was caught in the act of being a criminal and hurting others. i think she had every right to embarrass him and make it hurt.

i doubt it. look at the kids reaction. he seemed surprised his mom went ballistic. i would bet she never hit him nearly that hard before.

agreed. they rarely cause change anyway. the only way they work is if people do not go home until their point is made, and since they cant physically do anything but stand there and chant, it takes days to get the point of will across

Why is America celebrating the beating of a black child?

Quote:
It’s not surprising that a black mother in Baltimore who chased down, cursed and beat her 16-year-old son in the middle of a riot has been called a hero. In this country, when black mothers fulfill stereotypes of mammies, angry and thwarting resistance to a system designed to kill their children, they get praised.

Quote:
All of this happens against the backdrop of American hypocrisy: a culture that routinely cites Martin Luther King Jr.’s embrace of nonviolence yet celebrates militarized police, corporal punishment, and the daily violence directed at black children; a culture that disempowers black parents, that criminalizes them, and blames them for everything from low graduation rates to poverty.

Or maybe he got caught up in the heat of the moment. And his mother did the only thing she could to save her son from making a mistake that could follow him forever.

Note: the views of BlackPussySupreme et al do not reflect the views of this poster.

Smacking around smaller, weaker people or people who have to take the beating b/c of relationships/authority seems like failure. If an adult can't manage a child without resorting to violence? Not a good look.

Only exception that doctor types who talk about this stuff note is when the child's endangering themselves or other people in a substantial way. Maybe playing with matches and starting something on fire would be an example.

If you saw a mother smacking one of those white dipshits who burned down Vancouver after the Cup defeat, do you think we would be praising her? Hell yes.
