What if a cop started arresting people who have abortions because he's pro-life? Or if he arrests adulterers because "thou shalt not covet thy neighbors wife" or some such shit...is that defensible because it's his god's law?

well boyd technically he could arrest adulterers in a lot of states because there are laws against it. That is why it is used in court as a reason for divorce. Just another law that no one bothers with in our modern enlightened society like immigration.
