why are these celebs facing jail time for this crime? this is stupid. is this supposed to deter rich people from using their money to get their way? Lori is going to get 2 years for cheating to get her kid in to college? im sure college's are going to love the increased scrutiny on donations... since now giving $10M to a school cant even boost your kid's chances as a legacy student

The problem isn't that schools were taking money from rich people to get favorable admissions decisions. The problem was that there were people within the system, working on their own, taking that money for themselves. The schools certainly want to keep the money flowing; they just don't want it siphoned off by coaches and "advisors."
