I think the team believes Contreras will be ready next year (if not later this season) to take over at catcher as the back-up to Montero, if not as the primary catcher. He's probably ready now. But there is no spot available on a team 19 games over .500 and why would you change things when the pitching staff is doing this well? But I can't see the team holding him back yet another season.
