Get a weekday slot on the Mothership. Well a slot filling in for 2 weeks for somebody, but that's still pretty good.

I don't think it means that Bristol thinks much of them. What it means is they are available. Dickerson doesn't have anything to do until Bears training camp. Hood just is part time at ESPN 1000.

I think they both suck. Hood is a simpleton and not a very smooth talker. Dickerson is as vanilla and boring.

So ESPN just looks for guys in within their company that don't have shit to do to sub for their main guys.

Ok. I stand corrected. Hood speaks like Shakespeare writes and Dickerson is a wild and crazy guy that does cocaine and bangs hookers every night.

Yes and yes.

In an effort to be positive, Hood isn't as dumb as Jesse Rogers and Dickerson isn't as dull as Nick Friedel.

A simpleton? That seems like a very odd criticism for a sports radio host. Look at his peers/colleagues. Especially considering Hood doesn't really come off as dumb.

Jonathan Hood has been one of the more underutilized talents in this city for years. When you look across the sports landscape and take into some of the people that host shows there is no way he shouldn't have his own show. If Carmen Difalco, Jurko, and Jason Goff can have a show, then so can Hood. That also goes for Tom Waddle too.

I used to really like Waddle but have found him to be an increasingly difficult listen. Listening to him try to read stories for his Waddle's World segment can be painful (much like Hood's Under the Hood segment). He seems to be having more and more trouble speaking. I don't know if that has anything to do with his umpteen concussions but he really struggles with starting to call a person or a team by the wrong name before correcting himself. Similar to how "um" is one of Mulligan's favorite words "uh" is a favorite of both Waddle and Silvy. It just drives me crazy when people who are on the air in a major market like Chicago do not speak well. Laurence and Bernstein might be world-class puds, but at least they both sound like professional broadcasters.

Hood's always been decent. He's got knowledge and his thoughts haven't been completely neutered by the Mouse brand. I always forget he's on the radio at night on 1000. Not much to say about Dickerson. Kind of just there. Not as lame as Waddle or as bland as Carm but not much substance either.

He can be a very good listen and can really make you laugh at times....

"So I'll get back to you later..." (College Football Saturdays - for anyone who remembers that classic moment.)

but anytime a caller disagrees with him can be really bad radio.

I agree. As guys that attempt to incorporate their personality into shows he has always been of the best. I used to love his Jiggetts impersonations. His street cred was always more authentic than either Goff or Holmes too. He was also more of a Chicago guy. He knew the city and knew the history. I also liked the fact that he talked wrestling. I haven't caught him as much on 1000.

He is an example of how to be an iconoclast without being a raging red rectum

Haven't listened to them in quite some time, but both are fine. Better than the other turds that occupy the airwaves at both stations.

Hood continues to pop up in weird places. Tonight and tomorrow night he's co-hosting with Marcellus Nas on ESPN's LA affiliate, live from Rams training camp.

I am smarter today as a result of having read this message bored. Thank you.

I gave them a listen a few times over the weekend. Dickerson is better than I gave him credit for, but my opinion of Hood hasn't really changed.
