good move, but I'd expect nothing less from a Catholic institution

It's sad to think slavery was a fundamental part of the school's history. However, it is good that they confronted it and are trying to make amends.

It would be interesting to see a descendant of slaves they were not considering step up and ask for his preferential consideration in admissions.

this is good, small step. long, long way to go. if any other country had our system of slavery in their history and had done as little as we've done to make amends to those impacted by it, we'd cut trade relations with them and Bono and Springsteen would refuse to play concerts there. and until we do, we'll continue to have all manner of social ills and dumbly wonder what the problem is: viewtopic.php?f=100&t=102053

There's a movie script in that there. Or at least a Key & Peele sketch.

It's more than a small step. I think they were a couple of very small gestures from completely satisfying the relatives.

Preferred admissions and a scholarship are worth their weight in gold. The university detrimentally changed the path of the family. Now they are beneficially doing the same.

The school of slave studies will impact past and present slaves.

They are making individual and societal restitution. You cannot make a person whole for this type of action.
