Not a political endorsement.

But, what is this "scandal" of someone trying to pay as little tax as possible? When did this become evil? There are entire industries, classes, disciplines devoted to the practice of getting people to pay as close to no tax as is legally possible.

I guess I get that people get irritated that rich people don't pay "their fair share" but I appreciate legal creative accounting practices. It's good stuff.

It is only acceptable if your name is Warren Buffett. Every other rich person is wrong for doing it.

I think it's more about a guy that talks about supporting the military and making it great again not paying taxes that actually help the military or donating any money to help vets.

I don't think any of us would pass up the opportunity to pay less or no taxes.

This... Hillary called him on it last night and why he won't release his tax returns. I would think some of his supporters would be a bit frustrated that he is paying next to nothing in
taxes and not donating the kind of money to charity or other causes he claims to be supporting.

I'd tell everybody in the world and make it the focus of my campaign.

If people don't like it, change the laws. Isn't that the real point?

The laws wont change because politicians in both parties are mostly rich and benefit from the same laws Trump used.

Not sure it qualifies as a scandal. It does fit the Clinton narrative & makes it hard to argue that increasing taxes on "the rich" is out of bounds. I doubt the "scandal" surrounding his tax returns revolves around his effective tax rate - he is concealing something his team believes to be more damaging.

I guess that's his take on it. Just like his take seems to be that he's going to make his shirts with slave labor in Bangladesh because he can. But the way I heard it was similar to Clinton's "basket of deplorables" statement. He pretty much called anyone who pays taxes stupid. I doubt he can win by calling the electorate stupid.

It's particularly incongruous with his stated problem with some NATO member nations not paying their fair share.

Isn't the conventional wisdom that real estate owners/developers at that level basically pay no income tax b/c of massive depreciation deductions, though it is theoretically recaptured when they sell. He probably doesn't want people to see that big-ass zero. Or that he was using his charity to buy oil paintings of himself. Different from Romney who was offshoring and hates America and all Americans.

He doesn't think stupid is an insult though. He loves the poorly educated!

Plus his supporters are dipshits who are likely too stupid to realize when they're being insulted.

Got home yesterday and cut the tv on for background noise. To my shock I learned Jim Bakker still is alive & on tv pushing his church and soliciting donations.
Even funnier (not haha funny), he & some other pulpit pimp were on decrying taxes, the evil federal government and calling for a new Ronald Reagan.

Tax exempt status alone was one thing, but a morality discussion by THAT GUY...too much for one afternoon.

As usual, your points are excellent. I am, however, having a difficult time absorbing the bolded fact. How does a RR locate and utilize a channel that airs Jim Bakker? Point to ponder.

Dying batteries in an old remote first stuck me on the channel, no jokes please ..the ridiculousness of it all had me settle in, right up to the point where they were selling 100lbs tubs of rice to become charitable donations to Venezualans. Called the rice life saving "meal extenders" battling corrupt politicians. And I thought I could be full of shit at times...
