Post subject:  Good Morning, CFMB. Remember Veteran's Day!

My first "real" job after college was at an electronic parts firm. The guy who ran it was a fucking lunatic. Every Thursday we would have a sales meeting. If a customer called to place a huge order during the sales meeting, he refused to take the call and advised the receptionist to take a message. Seemed counter-productive to me. One August Thursday, the sales manager, Larry, was leading the meeting. He began by saying, "It's the dog days of summer..." Obviously, he was going to say something like, "so we have to keep pounding the phones, blah, blah, blah", but the owner didn't let him get that far. He exploded like a fucking bomb. "DOG DAYS? I DON'T WANT TO HEAR ANYTHING ABOUT FUCKING DOG DAYS! YOU FUCKERS START SELLING CAPACITORS AND RELAYS OR I'LL SHOW YOU FUCKING DOG DAYS!"

The receptionist was a really cute girl with curly blonde hair named Karen. I shouldn't say "girl". At the time I thought of her as a woman. She seemed much older than I was which means she was probably about 26. Anyway, the nut that owned the place ordered her to answer every call on Veteran's Day like this: "Good morning/afternoon. Thanks for calling Fasttrack Electronics. Remember Veteran's Day." She was really uncomfortable saying it, not because she had anything against veterans, but because it just sounded weird. One of the older guys told her not to say it unless the owner was around to hear it. So that's what she did. But this maniac went back to his office and called our own number. When Karen failed to mention Veteran's Day in the greeting he came sprinting from the back ranting like a madman, "REMEMBER VETERAN'S DAY! REMEMBER VETERAN'S DAY!" He made Karen cry. Actually, I saw him make grown men cry on more than one occasion. He never made me cry.

The boy and I are going to the Veteran's Day parade today. I'm sure the turnout will be pathetic like it usually is.

I'm pretty sure Hussra was in the military.

Serious question: Does the term "veteran" refer to anyone who served or does it specifically denote someone who served in a war zone?

Anyone who served. Serving in a war zone is a combat vet.

Thank you.

Anyway, I guess in modern times just about anywhere might be considered a war zone.

I signed up multiple times to try to go to Afghanistan. Never got called. I might still be in if I went. That was one of my main reasons for getting out. Nobody wants to serve 20 years in fucking Louisiana.

I want my son to join the Navy so he won't get killed.

I'll show him the Village People video to show him how much fun it is.

http://va.org/what-is-a-veteran-the-legal-definition/

What is a Veteran? Title 38 of the Code of Federal Regulations defines a veteran as “a person who served in the active military, naval, or air service and who was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable.” This definition explains that any individual that completed a service for any branch of armed forces classifies as a veteran as long as they were not dishonorably discharged.
