Post subject:  President Obama

A great president and a greater man.

President Barack Obama paid tribute to Joe Biden in a surprise ceremony at the White House on Thursday, where he awarded the vice president the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

A tearful Biden appeared overcome with emotion as Obama placed the medal around his neck and the two leaders embraced.

Biden thanked the president and spoke of how Obama stepped in to offer financial help when his late son, Beau, was fighting brain cancer and Biden was considering selling one of the family’s homes to pay for treatment.

“Mr. President, you have crept into our heart, you and your whole family, and you occupy it,” Biden said.

“It’s an amazing thing that happened,” he continued. “I knew how smart you were, I knew how honorable you were, I knew how decent you were from the couple of years we worked in the Senate. I knew what you were capable of but I never fully expected you’d occupy the Biden heart.”

“Mr President, I am indebted to you. I am indebted you and your family,” he added. “You know as long as there’s breath in me, I’ll be there for you and your whole family and I know it is reciprocal. Thank you all so very, very, very much.”

Obama began the ceremony by praising his second in command in a moving speech, calling him “the best vice president America has ever had,” “a lion of American history” and a “brother.”

“To know Joe Biden is to know love without pretense, service without self regard and to live life fully,” the president said. “As one of his longtime colleagues in the Senate said — who happened to be a Republican — if you can’t admire Joe Biden, you have a problem.”

“For your lifetime of service that will endure through the generations, I’d like to ask the military to join us onstage,” the president continued before presenting Biden with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor.

I prefer to wait until the next one actually has the job before passing judgment. i know that's a crazy stance to take, but I'm sticking with it.

I agree, the amount vacations he took was sickening and a stark contrast to his predecessor's dedication to the office.

He left a perfect blueprint on how to be a president in the new social media/24-7 news cycle age. Maybe he was a tad overexposed but he was likeable enough that it didn't seem too bad.

Trump came along and is poised to burn it all to the ground. The next president isn't even going to be allowed to use Twitter after Trump gets through with it.

I won't comment on his presidentcy in general. One thing I know (and I fully expect the Bush and other did it too argument) his BS I have the power of the pen to be bad. That groundwork that people applauded in the face of gridlock is likely to be very very bad in the future. As an aside and a lesson some bleeding hearts should take from another famous quote of his is "elections have consequences ".

Obama was and is a good man, politics aside. I believe Biden is too.

In college, I majored in politics but was never one of those douchey party loyalists. I said to the douchey head of the young Dems "I know he has his weak spots, but I'd love Joe Biden as a serious candidate." His response was that he was from too small a state and wasn't 'polished enough.' That solidified my opinion that politics wasn't for me and that Biden was the real deal. I love the guy.

'presidentcy' ...

Anyway ... just to make sure everyone's squared away on the quantities of Executive Orders so as to avoid any unfortunate commentary at a later time:

You did but you said mentioning other presidents like DT did is an "argument," which implies that the idea that Obama drafted more EOs than anyone else can either be right or wrong. But it's not an argument - it's a fact that he didn't use it as much as others did.

I believe Obama was a horrible President. I know (I expect rebuttals as I'm usually wrong) his "I will sign executive order" to be bad. The celebration Obama received when using an executive order to relieve the gridlock in Washington will have future consequences. On a related note, you Democrats will suffer now that Trump has been elected.

No, if anything, Trump burnishes Obama's legacy, because we'll look back fondly on the good things he did and the person he was (normal, loving family, can be counted on to read a fucking book) and ignore the bad stuff, like the dronings, continuing the trajectory of income inequality dating back to Reagan, and the erosion of the Democratic Party from a political party to one man's public-relations firm.

Yeah, that's what happens when you don't fucking know how to win elections. The Democrats bought a sports car and tossed the keys to a drunk teen.
