Currently in a Facebook debate on Herb's page defending the rap career of Will Smith Quote: I would take umbrage with the lack of respect for Fresh Prince. His first two albums were very well respected in the industry. He went on tour with PE and was one of the driving forces behind boycotting the GRAMMYs. Once we get to the "Will Smith" era after he's really famous is where the drop off happens and even then he had some bangers. Quote: I agree that Jeff was the force behind it, but if listen to his flow on "Brand New Funk" it's hard to not take him seriously as an MC. Prince was also a very visual writer. In the early days you could see his rhymes. His storytelling skills were significant. Even the Prince of Bel Air rap, just because it's commercial, doesn't mean it's bad.

I actually saw him on that tour with Public Enemy (and Run DMC I believe) - Rockford Metro Center 1988ish. |

Saw LoHo on CSN's STL last night. Panel was him, Hub & Teddy Greenstein. Chuck Garfein was hosting, no Kapper. Anyway, it seemed every time Laurence spoke up or gave an opinion, Greenstein disagreed, interrupted and argued. One segment was about The Bears raising the ticket prices and LoHo was making some good points but Teddy stepped all over him. Kinda felt bad for LH - it seemed that Teddy had a red ass on for Holmes for some reason? Anybody know of a feud or bad blood? Or was that just Greenstein being Greenstein? I don't know enough to know... |

I wonder if the new Mrs. Holmes has realized yet just what she has got herself into. |

Laurence tryin to be a hip hop hipster. Actually (raises glasses with index finger), Will Smith is.... He called the new Tribe album a top 10 ever! I think you need a minimum of 3-5 years letting a movie or album battle the test of time before making such huge claims. |

rogers park bryan wrote: Laurence tryin to be a hip hop hipster. you know, if he really wanted to be a proper hip hop hipster he could try telling everybody that he saw el-p with company flow back in the 90s, since run the jewels is the go-to #1 kinda-mainstreamish-but-still-underground-enough-rap-group to namedrop so you can seem like you're "down with hip hop" even if people who read your list of top-20 songs of 2016 sprout a vagina by the time they finish reading the list. |

you know, one night years back i remember hip hop hipster laurence reminiscing about his dorm daze back at depaul where people used to bump cypress hill really really loud..... i wonder if laurence was the guy that people would go "oh shit" if he was around cuz he'd go and tell the RA? i remember back at UIC in the late 90s we were having a nice session in one of the clusters and there was a vigorous pounding on the door like HEY YOU MOTHERFUCKERS OPEN UP THE DOOR!!!!! it was the RA dushaynt who was like "hey [brownnosing indian girl] called me to report a marijuana smoking session going on over here and by the time i get halfway down the hallway i can smell the shit like WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?! .....you guys didn't call me?! seriously where's your fucking manners?!" top lad that dushaynt. i was legit !!!whoa!!! to randomly run into him at a house party ~5yrs later and he still maintained "that dude" status... god bless him! #MyKindofRA |

That seems like the kind of thing he would see happen to someone else and then talk about it on his show saying "If someone did that to me things would have gone a lot differently. A LOT..." |

I'm guessing in a year or two we will hear about how Teddy Greenstein almost "got it". |
