It's been pretty damn entertaining. Even though it's pretty wrong I loved this quote from Durant:

Quote:
Shaq was a shitty free throw shooter, he missed dunks, he airballed free throws, he couldn’t shoot outside the paint. He was bigger than everyone, didn’t have no skill, bigger and stronger than everyone. Still a great player, but you had your flaws as a player and you played on five or six teams, too. So it’s not like he’s just some perfect center. You had your flaws, too. I didn’t know cops could go on Twitter and threaten civilians like that. I’m glad JaVale challenged him.

Shaq just tweeted at Durant to mind his business.

I don't even know who's side I'm on. Shaq comes across as an asshole, but the Warriors and Kerr whining about him damaging McGee's reputation and career prospects just comes off as some lame ass crying.

I instinctively side with McGee and Durant on this even though KD's critiques were obviously over the top. It's just that Shaq is probably the most overly sensitive stars in the history of the game and has been the primary person responsible for the massive fall in the quality of Inside the NBA.

I like Shaq and find him entertaining, although I realize that's an unpopular opinion. But McGee and the Warriors are definitely the oversensitive ones here. The fact is that McGee IS a bum, and he DOES look fucking ridiculous a lot on the court. It's fair game to make fun of that.

He needs to get new material though. Lack of creativity to keep going after McGee. Plus he's totally debased himself by getting into a Twitter war with a third string or whatever center. Pick on someone your own size. At least Barkley doesn't hold back from criticizing anyone, including guys who've surpassed him on the GOAT list. Shaq goes after nobodies.

Can't get any more right than this

If Allen Iverson wasn't the fastest guy in the world while dribbling the ball, he'd be nothing.

It's a league like no other that demands physical freakiness to simply be considered for employment. There is a small percentage of the world population that will be as tall as the average NBA player.

A.I. was a hell of a lot more than just fast, great ball handling skills, tough as nails and could finish at the hoop. Shaq was a one trick pony for the first 4 or 5 years in the league but he developed some nice post moves and a short range jumper after that, he wasn't all dunks after 4-5 years.

What do consider Shaq's "one trick"?

When Shaq came up, he could run the court, pass and was an overall absolute beast.

Like 313 said, AI is a terrible comparison here. There are guys that are much better athletes with much better handles than Iverson ever had who can't crack the league.

To your last point, I think the NFL is what you're describing. Kyle Korver couldn't make the NFL. A guy like Steve Novak would probably be less athletic than most punters and kickers.

Can you name 3? Iverson is widely considered one of the best athletes to ever play in the NBA. His handle was second to none while he played, and there are maybe one or two guys on that level right now.

Are you talking about And1 guys?

Kevin Durant's statement essentially was, "except for that really important, exceptional physical trait, Shaq would be nothing." I'm saying the same is true for most NBA players and AI is great evidence of this. Would he have made it as a perimeter player?

NFL players are much more a combination of size (although not off the charts) and weight work. Anyone can put on the muscle NFL guys have as evidenced by the way they shrink post career. A person cannot work himself into being 6'5".

Durant's quote was pretty wrong. I'm not defending that. I get where you are coming from, but I disagree. You can add the muscle in the NFL, but not the speed, quickness, and footwork. We saw that with a guy like JaMarcus Webb. Again, I would point to a guy like Steve Novak. He simply could not work himself into the NFL. But a guy who can train himself to shoot threes like that will always have a place in the NBA.

I'm sorry, but Iverson's skill set was just a tad bit more varied than Shaq.

Way off man. It's the exact opposite: guys off the street have an easier chance of making it and thriving in the NFL than they do in the NBA. Tom Brady, Kurt Warner, and Wes Welker are examples of undrafted or late round picks who are likely HOFers. There is no equivalent in the NBA. There are also tons of OL and RB stars who were late picks or undrafted who were absolute studs in the NFL. That the same isn't the case in the NBA speaks to the physical traits one absolutely needs to thrive in the NBA. The examples you mentioned are mere one dimensional specialists. People with the same athletic limitations make the HOF in the NFL.

No, I can't name 3. That's sort of the entire point of my argument. But yeah, it would be similar to guys like the And1 guys and stuff.

This is odd, even for one of Dolphins dumb ass posts. A.I. averaged 41 minutes a game for his career, he was tough as hell and 27 ppg..he was an all time scorer, he took the biggest bunch of stiffs to the championship game I've ever seen.

But even throwing in And1 caliber handles I think Iverson is without a doubt on that level. Also, a few of those guys did get a crack at the D-League.

I'll make an exception for QB. But you're fucking insane if you think Wes Welker is anywhere near the HOF, especially considering how stacked the waiting list is at WR. And guys like Isaiah Thomas, Draymond Green, Manu Ginobli, and Rodman off the top of my head are very late round picks who were studs in the NBA. I also reject your premise that you are gonna find a ton of "absolute stud" undrafted RBs and OL. You're going to find almost none.
