The tallest player on the field stood alone to honor the flag and the country he served on the battlefield.

Absolutely.

I am a little disappointed none of his teammates joined him.

Why is that disappointing?

I am assuming others in the locker room agreed with him. Disappointing that they did not join him in coming out to salute the flag.

Would be very interested to hear Villanueva's thoughts on all of this and also Trump's "I like soldiers who don't get captured" take about McCain

Rangers lead the way.

I'm not sure any of his teammates felt as strongly as he does. I don't think there are going to be any repercussions from what he did so I don't know why any teammates would hesitate to join him if they wanted to.

It’s always best to protest the anthem at Soldier Field.

I don't think anyone is protesting against the men and women who serve except for the guy who shows up at funerals.

Of course. But it's a lot easier to vilify people if you say they are protesting our soldiers than if you tell the truth and admit they are protesting inequality, police brutality, and an overtly racist President.

That guy is an asshole; makes religious leaders look bad.

Villanueva is not a supporter of Trump's at all, so I don't think you will be seeing him visit the White House or appear on Fox News at all

You guys are thinking of Fred Phelps. He died over 3 years ago after he was excommunicated from the church in 2013 for having a change of heart about his beliefs.

Different crazies run it now.

There were even stories that phelps had mellowed in last years but his second in command was driving force behind all this stuff. Doesn't matter really, you create the monster you are tarnished by it.
