The eastern schism, which resulted in the Orthodox church was mostly due to the infallibility of the pope. The western schism started by Luther was due to a multitude of reasons including transubstantiation and other issues with the Catholic church - the pope and the church selling indulgences, popes and bishops having mistresses and their own armies, etc. |

I don't find it helpful to make my own life decisions based upon the poor behavior of a few. |
