You're not perfect, but you're definitely a great alternative to cable so far.

$40/month, 50+ channels (including live ESPN/NBC Sports/Golf Channel/MLB Network), and unlimited cloud DVR.

How much money do you save over a comparable package from a cable provider when you factor in how much you pay for the internet service to deliver YouTubeTV?

Easily over $500 a year. It's not millions of dollars, but savings nonetheless.

That's real money.

Personally I prefer PS Vue. Regardless, more people should jump to services such as this and dump Comcost. Whether it's Vue, Youtube TV, Sling, etc., there is no reason why anyone should still have a cable subscription with one of those god awful DVRs they provide you with and charge $8-16 a month per TV for.

I'm saving around $700 per year using Playstation Vue. It's not perfect either but it does everything I need.

Agreed here that it's not perfect, but they are constantly updating their apps and improving it. Meanwhile the last cable DVR I had probably hadn't had a major software since 2010.

It's been nearly 2 years since I cut the cord and my savings are well over $1,000 at this point.

I think we are going to go with PS Vue. Need the food network.

Who is your ISP?

Currently Vast Broadband, but it's going to be AT&T Fiber in a few months after I move.

Currently we pay $178 a month, which includes our discounted promotion package (Cable, Internet, Voice), equipment rentals and taxes. As of August, this will increase to over $200 a month, and then increase again a few months after that. I called Xfinity and was told that “all I have to do is call back to ask for a lower price package” if I wanted.

If we decide to cut cable and only use their internet, we will pay $114/month for the internet service (the discounted bundle price no longer applies). We will also have to keep the modem rental, which is $11, unless we buy our own. Throw on YouTube TV at $40/month and we end up paying $165.00 per month. We will have less channels, but Hulu and Netflix can supplement anything we miss. YouTube TV also comes with unlimited cloud DVR storage.

So, in the short term we will save $13/month, but will save more as time goes on. There are risks associated with having everything run on internet-only, of course.

Long story short, if we make the switch we will save over $400 a year, and even more if we purchase a modem.

Purchase the modem. Everyone should own their modem.

Post subject:  Re: YouTube TV

we tried PSvue and Slingtv when at the old house but mediacom caps your gb on your internet connection. we used up our 250gb 2/3 of the way through the month so that was quickly nixed.

when we moved, i dumped dish and got a different internet provider and have been busy enough that i've not gotten to watch a ton of tv. but as things have slowed down, i've added every channel i watched to my roku and have just used my parents dish login to basically have complete access to what i used to have.

a typical millennial move i know.

we are going from 115 bucks a month to just 50 bucks a month.

Got Vue about a month ago and very happy with it.

This is a no-brainer. Anyone renting a modem from their provider might as well offer to give the CEO a rimjob at the same time. You can get a good modem for under $100. It pays for itself in less than a year.

You need to check with your ISP for compatibility, but the Motorola / ARRIS Surfboards are the most commonly used across many ISP.

The 6190 handles the super fast speeds, but there are cheaper models if you need less than 100 Mbps downspeed.

edit: I've used an SB6121 for years and years and it handles 100 Mbps like a champ, even though Comcast wants to tell me it is no longer supported.

Man oh man, that's a lot of cash! I have WOW and pay 118.00 a month for internet & cable. That includes a DVR and one HD cable box. As far as our home phone,we have been on Magicjack for about 5 years. It's about 65 bucks for a whole year and it works great!

You're not a single guy. Cancel your service and have your wife start a new account with all the things you love for a little over $100. When that promo runs out put it in your name. Rinse repeat. BUY YOUR OWN MODEM!

xfinity x1 DVR platform is actually a really well designed system. the voice remote is really a nice feature that gets you to the content you want instantly. that being said, my 2 year comcast intro pricing is expiring in september. i'm hoping to find a streaming service to replace it.... i'm stuck with comcast for internet as i have no other high speed internet options available...
