My parents used to threaten me with Oakton for bad report cards. |

A friend of mine's kid turned down a full ride to Knox to play for Fratto. I don't think his mother was too happy about it, but the kid wants some kind of career in baseball and thought this was a better route. |

There is no shame associated anymore with choosing community college. Have views about community college changed in Chicagoland as well? |

Well, you know how that works. The kid is a good student, but I doubt the same aid package would have been offered if he was not a stud catcher. |

The shitty program at Knox is one of the main reasons he didn't go there. He actually accepted a scholarship at a Division III powerhouse, but then Fratto got to talking to him. He's quite likely to be playing D1 ball after next season. I have no reason to blow this guy up. He's not my kid. I'm telling you the truth. |

I'm telling you the truth. i didn't/shouldn't beat up the kid. that wasn't my intent. sorry if it came across that way. he made a good choice to go the juco route, imo. d3 sports are often nothing more than a recruiting tool for the school to get more kids/dollars in the door. juco sports can be, and often are, a stepping stone. |

No, I didn't take it that way. I think the reason the kid wasn't recruited by D1 schools is probably his size. He's not the biggest kid around. He's a superior defensive catcher but when it came down to the tournament they went with the guy with the big bat. My guy has always been a good hitter. I'm pretty sure he's the best hitter in the history of his high school (which admittedly isn't a powerhouse like Andrew or Sandburg or Barrington, etc.), but he said himself that it's a big step up from high school even to Juco. He had a decent year with the bat, didn't show a whole lot of power though even though I believe he hit like 13 homers in his last high school season, which I think is a giant number, right? They expect him to really step forward with the stick next season and his defense has never been in question. Maybe he can grow a little. Oakton had that pitcher from Notre Dame H.S. last season. He was a nice little lefty in high school, but he grew several inches at Oakton and next thing you know he's throwing 95 and at LSU. |
