People upset and disappointed by his recent change in political philosophy are thinking about it the wrong way. Conservatives generally get destroyed in arguments on here and now that he switched sides the fight is a little more fair. He’s basically the opposite of Kevin Durant. Respect.

Interesting. At least the conervsatives on the board can take solace in the fact that you think they were already holding their own.

Also support, though a) leash isn't conservative as much as he's sick of the fringe Left and b) I can squat more than he can.

How much did you squat? I think we discussed this, but I can't remember.

As far as politics, I don't know what I am. But you are certainly correct that the fringe Left made me much more passionate about free speech. I don't debate ideology nowadays as much as I just debate the right of people to hold any ideology they want as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others. I used to say I believed that, but I didn't really practice it. I was pretty hypocritical, and I'm sure I still am in many ways that I don't realize. None of us is as smart as all of us.

And that led me to examine my beliefs on the role of government, in general. Those beliefs have certainly changed, whether it has made me more liberal or more conservative.

I have chicken legs, so that was a huge lie on my part.

I think a lot of people are in the same boat...they are re-examining the role of our government (and our entire culture). There are a lot of ex-liberals and ex-conservatives around, and it's not like they are simply moderate; they're still figuring out where they stand. Maybe it was always that way--I don't know.

I think the extreme views on both sides, made known via social media and the 24 hour news cycle, has led to more people not classifying themselves as R or D. Instead, they view themselves as free-thinkers, not tethered to either party and finding themselves agreeing with points held by both parties. I think voting has become the lesser of two evils for many today.

Echoing bad takes doesn't make you a legend. That said, Leash is a great poster.

I don't think anyone was mean to him--it's just that the burden of being affluent and white can be too much to bear sometimes.

I don't remember if it was this one or the last one but he wasn't happy I brought up his defense of the Nazi-adjacent Robert E Lee statue protesters and then he created a thread calling me judgmental.

I thought white privilege meant no such burdens exist?

Now I see why you weren't a history major at Second Tier Big Ten School.
He was a revisionist history major.

I think it was the non confrontational style employed by Denis which eventually drove him from the board.

He was quite upset that I refused to argue for pages on end. It was my job to fight the good fight!

There is a way to enjoy BRick's posting, and I can tell you it is not by arguing with him.
