They just unveiled their brand spanking new "4th Generation" fighter... Only 1 problem... https://www.forbes.com/sites/dominicdud ... 333b09c15a It's a carbon copy of an obsolete F-5 Tiger, an aircraft the US stopped using for front line service back in the early 1970s and barely even used them in Vietnam as it was inferior to the F-105 and F-4. The US first designed the aircraft in the late 50s off of the T-38 airframe and then in the 70s built an export version. These aircraft did get a 2nd life in the 70s and 80s though in the aggressor role of training squadrons. If an F-5 looks familiar to you, that is because Paramount had several of them pained black with a red star to serve as the fictional MiG-28 in Top Gun (there are no even numbered MiGs) |

Makes a lot of the hand wringing about their conventional military might a bit more laughable. |

An American teenager, aided by a precocious group of friends and an ornery captain close to retirement, stole a loaded F-16 in the 80’s and defeated their entire Air Force by himself to rescue his dad. After that, no one should be worried about them. |

It also had the great line, "Don't you Jews ever get tired of fighting city hall?" |

Yeah Iran with their fishing boats attacking the Navy or the "Elite Republican Army" would fold just as fast or faster than Iraq. Missiles are the concern. |

Had a friend in the 80s who was a gigantic moron and he played it all the time. |

The aerial sequences were filmed with the Israeli Air Force (Unlike the Navy in Top Gun, the USAF offered no help for Iron Eagle). The F-16s (which had probably all earned kills over Bekaa Valley a few years prior) were flown by Israeli pilots. The MiGs? Those were IAI Kfirs, which is was an improved Mirage 5. |

He played George. Worst movie: That one with Chuck Norris and the hot chick. I actually went to see that because of the hot chick and because they said it was like Raiders of the Lost Ark. |
