Gil Thorp once came back from 42 shots back to win the local country club tournament having never played golf before.

He beat 29 guys this weekend, and some of those 29 were (wisely) not even playing to win. They were playing for season-long standings.
Full field tournaments can have 140+ guys, all of the the best golfers in the world, all trying to win the damn thing from the start.

Wasn’t his number 1 priority but he almost choked that away, too.

No one else had a chance to win the cup besides Tiger, really. So, other than Rose, all anyone else had to play for was the tour championship. And they all shit the bed too. The Tiger intimidation was back. Made Rory his bitch.

"So far ahead" = 2 strokes up with 2 holes to go. Yet, no wins all season long.
