Yes they are. I’ve got two, a 14 yr old male and an 18 yr old female.
The male is showing his age. He’s had a tough life. Used all of his nine lives. Used to be 15 lbs of muscle. Now he’s only about 9 lbs. The female is in great shape. Looks like she’s 5 yrs old.

Seems like females live longer. At least mine did. Although my best bud snowshoe cat lived through 3 moves spanning over a thousand miles and lived to be 16. I still miss the hell out of him.

Glad you’ve had some long lasting kitties. My buddy had one live to 18 but he had a rough last year. He was an awesome cat too.

Chauncey is the male. He’s been hit by a car, had six serious abcesses from fights and has lost all his teeth. He’s a tough old bastard. He’s like a dog. He will come when you call him and can have a conversation with you, a very cool dude. If we have a group of people over, he can pick out the one who is most allergic to cats. He will go right to them and pester the shit out of them. I’ll miss him when he’s gone.

that's awesome. my cat was like a dog too. he always came when you called and even though he was quiet (only really meowed when he was hungry) he would look at you when you talked to him and seemed like he listened. he even tried to go running with me one night. had a rabies scare and had to be in a cage for a few weeks after a really bad bite. but he got through that.

they really do become part of the family and it's like a loss of any family member when they go.

I had one exactly like that. Never had a litter box and actually let my then year old niece try to ride him without even scratching her. He just walked with her to my room to stop her.

My favorite cat of all time, OF ALL TIME, was this big old white cat with piercing blue eyes that our handyman Keith had given us.

So, we named it Keith Cat. He was a massive cat.

One day, he was gone. We didn't see him for months. Some friends of ours from 20 miles away swear they saw Keith Cat.

Then, about 6 months later he came strolling back to the farm. He was scratched up and part of his ear was missing but he was still the Cock of the Walk. He'd seen some things. I loved that cat.
