Singles hitter, rarely walked (not saying he doesn’t belong, but he wasn’t as good as many believe).

He won ten Gold Gloves in a row. In his career with the Mariners (his prime), he hit .322 with a .365 OB%. Ok, he walked 50 times a year...but he also collected 200+ hits in a season seven times. His career WAR is 59.4, and check out the similarity scores;

Rod Carew (849.8) *
Lou Brock (847.8) *
Kenny Lofton (831.4)
Max Carey (823.2) *
Doc Cramer (815.9)
Tony Gwynn (815.2) *
Harry Hooper (811.6) *
Fred Clarke (805.1) *
Sam Rice (801.9) *
Zack Wheat (799.8) *
* - Signifies Hall of Famer

1st ballot HOFer. Loved to watch the guy play, including defensively.

He was great. Imagine the numbers if he would have been over here the whole time.

If you offered any team in the league a guy who will only hit 7 home runs a year, but will hit .340 and be one of the top five fielders at his position, the GMs would jump on getting that guy to be their leadoff hitter. And then tell the GM he will do that for about 10 years. And no off the field issues or performance enhancing drugs to deal with either.

Pete would still hold the record of most needless injuries administered during an exhibition game.
