Their beef and cheddar croissant with hot giardiniera is divine. Their fries are great. Their chicken chopped salad is really good. If you consider it "fast food", it's the best of the category.

it makes sense it expanded through the burbs first.

Portillo's is fine for what it is. Their beef is overrated and bland. There are better burgers. Their fries are vastly overrated. Their onion rings are decent. They do hot dogs better than most places. The cake is tasty. Living in the northern reaches of Lake County, it's my best option available...tallest midget award.

Like many things that are average and super successful, they market better than anyone.

Agree with mostly everything except the burger. Where can you get a better fast food burger?

Always go to the drive through, unless you really are going to sit down and eat your meal. They prioritize drive through other wise their parking lots would be a cluster fuck. That dog and fries is going to get a helluva lot more priority for packaging assembly via the drive-thru then inside.


Also I would like to see Joe Orr pull his "I'm not pulling up" stunt in a Portillo's drive through...I bet they would slash his tires!

Dengeos in Skokie and Buffalo Grove for one. Jucier burger...better bun.

you have the taste buds of a six year old. Their "fries" are like the frozen ones my grandma used to make in the oven. Ironically, Culver's are the same style but not quite as terrible, but still bad.
