A group of Boston men are planning a "Straight Pride Parade" to mock identity politics and exercise their right to free speech.

The group putting on the event, Super Happy Fun America, said the parade will celebrate the "diverse history, culture, and contributions of the straight community!"

Mark Sahady, one of the organizers, wrote on Facebook they had to file a discrimination complaint with the city to get approved. The parade is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 31.

"If you would like to come as an individual, march as a group, or bring a float or vehicle, then get in touch. This is our chance to have a patriotic parade in Boston as we celebrate straight pride," he said.

Sahady also said in a Facebook comment the group is "poking fun at the identity politics of the left."

"This is also about free speech. In cities with Democratic administrations the 1st amendment rights of those who don't agree with the politics of the left are not respected. We are going to change all of that by using their language against them," he said.

"We want tolerance, and we want tolerance for everybody — not just the LGBTQ community," organizer John Hugo told the Washington Post. He said "a very famous gay conservative" will speak at the event. The group named actor Brad Pitt as the event's mascot.

At the end of the parade, they plan on raising a "straight pride flag" over city hall.

The effort comes as Boston prepares to host its annual weeklong LGBT pride celebration. June marks national LGBTQ Pride Month.

It must be tough living in a city renowned for its acceptance of gay people like Boston.

Yeah it must be really tough on them to live in a major American city. Boston is super intolerant with all of its universities.
