I think not. The fans love him and the players voted him as the best ref in the league. There are a shit ton of refs, officials, and umpires who draw attention to themselves by being shitbags. This guy is just having fun and keeping everyone lose while controlling the game.

I think the keeping-guys-loose part is an understated part of hockey officiating. NHL referees tend to give as good as they get with the players, and in a league where punching someone in the face is only a five-minute penalty, they can't make a spectacle out of ejecting a guy for being rude. All officials are worthy of criticism, but NHL refs the least so. They're the least incompetent, the least sensitive, and the least mob-connected.

Who was the one who said "fuck you, you're getting an embellishment" to James Neal? Yelling "fuck you" to James Neal, that's livin' the dream.
