Is there a better ref in all of sports?

I think not. The fans love him and the players voted him as the best ref in the league. There are a shit ton of refs, officials, and umpires who draw attention to themselves by being shitbags. This guy is just having fun and keeping everyone lose while controlling the game.

Except for the loud and deliberate "....good goal..." or "...no goal..." replay calls, I cannot understand a word he is saying.

I think the keeping-guys-loose part is an understated part of hockey officiating. NHL referees tend to give as good as they get with the players, and in a league where punching someone in the face is only a five-minute penalty, they can't make a spectacle out of ejecting a guy for being rude. All officials are worthy of criticism, but NHL refs the least so. They're the least incompetent, the least sensitive, and the least mob-connected. Who was the one who said "fuck you, you're getting an embellishment" to James Neal? Yelling "fuck you" to James Neal, that's livin' the dream.
