While unfortunate for the community, how do you justify keeping a school open when it is less than half full with a projection that enrollment would shrink further in the future? It's like becoming used to open space when having a vacant lot next door and bitching when someone builds on it.

The student/teacher ratio in CPS is a terrific 14:1. The problem is they still end up with 30+ kids in certain classes because of the enrollment issues above. Of course the union's answer is to just hire more.
