Flipping around the different news networks...love how both sides are trying to swing this news to their own sides.

Reality is nothing that happens in Kentucky is going to have any impact on 2020 and the Presidential race.

Maybe. But the turnout was much higher than normal for an off-year election. That’s generally not good for GOP if it’s a national trend.

Post subject:  Re: Kentucky

Meh. Turnout could easily be high because of the fact that the current Gov was so disliked. The rest of the state elections went Republican rather easily. So does not really seem like a big blue wave in Kentucky.

Gonna be awkward when he’s made to ask other black candidates to leave their elections because white people don’t want to vote for them

The fact that a bunch of Republicans voted for a Democrat because they hated the Republican candidate isn’t meaningless though.

Now that the Dems have the Governorship, if they get some more house seats, they can start the process of JerryMandering and flipping Kentucky back to blue. oh and Virginia had a blue wave too. But let right wingers like RDFC poo poo this, too funny!

Turnout could be high in a year because the President is so disliked.

If the motivation is trump then would not most vote in Democrats in at least most of the races? That seems way more tied to a govenor that most hated.

I'm just saying the motivation could be to vote against Trump when he is actually on the ballot.

Trump will win Kentucky easily no matter who is the governor

The governor of Kentucky made the election about Trump. He said a vote for him is a vote for Trump.

Trump's people also spinning this as Trump helping the GOP Gov perform stronger than he otherwise would have.

Only Trump would take credit for helping a loser.

Like I said originally....both sides are spinning this deal.

But nothing that happened last night will impact the presidential election next yr. Kentucky will go for Trump. The presidency will be determined by a few battleground states.

So both sides can spin all the want.

The only thing that matters is comparing the number of votes the Kentucky governor got compared to Mayor Pete in his last election.

Bevin was trash and even if Trump was in an orange jumpsuit he would still win Kentucky by 10+ points.

Correct.

Bevin's approval rating was 30 - the worst of any governor in the country. You could even spin an argument that he only came close because of Trump. Though I wouldn't because there is no correlation between this and a 2020 presidential election. Anyone who claims otherwise is grasping at straws.

Kentucky going Democratic is interesting because I believe their state-level party deviates quite a bit from the DNC: much more populist, much less PMC. By the same token, it's hard to get too jazzed about Virginia getting ever more Democratic, because a lot of that has to do with the federal government and Northern Virginia McMansion Hell.

I did not mean to imply that I thought KY was going blue beyond this particular race. Of course Trump will win there and win it easily. The broader concern for the GOP would be losses in the suburbs in less predictable regions.
