Currently has 5 guys on NBA rosters.

Probably more than any High School that isn't a Prep School.

How come Bob Hambric stopped coaching there way back when?

He'd gotten older and he was sick. He died maybe 5 or 6 years after he stepped down. The word was that Rose would have probably transferred had he remained coach. Hambric kept Rose on the JV as a Freshman even though everyone knew that he was ready for Varsity as soon as he enrolled. Hambric stepped down at the conclusion of Rose's freshman year.

It was a Simeon rule that Freshmen wouldn't play varsity. Robert Smith changed that when he took over.

And a possible would-have-been # 1 (Wilson), though he may have been overrated. (I'm not claiming he was, but having never seen him play, it's possible that he would have been Marcus Liberty.)

Thanks for the info on Hambric. Seemed real old school.

And Liberty may have ended up being better if Lou Henson hadn't wasted his time trying to make him a power forward.

Yeah he was well respected. I actually used to see him sometimes during his retirement years when he was in really bad shape. Liberty was the truth imo. Going to Illinois hurt him as they had him playing out of position. Being a Prop kid hurt him as well. If there were one and dones back in 87 he definitely would have been one of them.

I believe Nick was a No. 10 overall when he came out. Yeah as Far as First Rounders go there have been 3 that have come out of Simeon over the past 30-40 years.

I looked yesterday and Top NBA-player producing high schools of all time and Simeon wasn't in the Top 40. I've always viewed Simeon as a school with basketball talent. Is this a recent thing?

Their first pro player was Nick Anderson in 90. And he really wasn't a really a Simeon guy as he transferred there (From Prosser) in order to play with Ben Wilson. Bob Hambric put them on the map. For the last 35 or so years they have been a basketball power. Prior to that I'd say no. When it came to NBA players I'd have to say that no school really dominated back in the day. It was pretty much spread out.

And two top five overall picks in baseball as well. Gonna have talk to Nas' friends about slacking in football. Phillips has more guys, past and future.

Yeah Old Wes Chamberlain happens to be from down the way.

Carl Bonner (My old PE teacher) was putting them out in football at Phillips for years. He ran a helluva program for a long time.

Didn't know Deon Thomas went there, that was the time I started reading the newspaper in grade school and following sports.. I was a huge Deon fan, always surprised he didn't get to the NBA.

Jerry Gee was another favorite from reading the paper as a kid..another guy that surprised me for not getting to the NBA. I think Gee was player of the year out of St. Martin de Porres.

I think Deon was drafted 2nd round but decided to take the guaranteed overseas money as opposed trying his luck with the NBA.
