I know there are some Hawk haters out there, and sometimes, Hawk irritated me when he went silent. And I wish he would have kept Wimpy. But he's been a big part of my life for a long time and I enjoyed him.

So, Hawk gets the Frank Gore award for longevity. The best announcer the Sox ever had (tv or radio) left after the 05 season.

Silence didn't bother me either. It was his arrogance in stating untruths. But the one thing I did like from his beginning to his end was his disdain for poor umpiring.

Not so much the angry silence, but the late-innings silence. Even when he was with Paciorek, he would sometimes just stop talking, and half the reason I tuned in was to listen to Hawk and Wimpy talk. When he did this with DJ, it was unbearable, because, though I don't mind Jackson too much, he's no solo act.

I only ever noticed him doing that when the game was out of hand in the opponent's favor. And I much preferred it to the current spate of grandpa humor we are currently subjected to in such situations.
