They've done everything extremely well for the past few seasons. When compared to the Cubs, it is simply night and day. While fans of either team have many reasons to be frustrated with ownership, the front offices are completely different stories. The White Sox's rebuild tactics and their focus on developing and rewarding top prospects sets them apart. Any team can tear down and load a farm system. But you have to take a farm system and turn it into an extended competitive window. The Cubs window ended up being 3 years, arguably 4 years. The White Sox have essentially guaranteed themselves a 6 year window... possibly an 8 year window. The big brother has been surpassed by the little brother. |

Even I am struggling to complain about this offseason but I'm going to need to see them make the playoffs at least once before giving them any credit. |

The front office has acquired almost as much talent as possible. They "Spent the Cole money" on Gio, Robert, Abreu, Grandal, Keuchel, and Encarnacion. If they were going to spend $300 million this offseason, I am glad they spread it around and didn't put all their eggs in one basket. In large part, the front office has done nearly all they can off the field. Now its up to the players and coaching staff to get things done on the field. I don't think its crazy at all to expecting nothing less than a World Series appearance over the next 2-3 seasons. Not sure if IMU is trolling at all, but he's right with a lot of his post. I don't think little brother has surpassed big brother just yet. However the gap is getting closer by the day and if the Sox win another WS then I think you would have to say that the little brother is comfortably in the lead. |

Hard to argue. The Sox have not hamstrung themselves giant contracts. Also have some potential flip candidates. But like FF said, they have to get it done on the field. |

Short of winning a pennant would likely be a failure. Even four or five straight 95 win division championship seasons would not be enough to overcome four or five straight ALCS losses IMO. |

Not even a slight element of trolling. I am impressed (at a team with fewer resources being this effective). I am pissed (at my favorite team and ownership). I am annoyed (that the Cubs set themselves up so well from 2011-2015 and then shot themselves in the foot repeatedly). I am frustrated (that the other team in town will go through an extended period of success while my team is on a self-imposed downswing). I am happy (because maybe an extended period of success for the White Sox can hold the Cubs' feet to the fire and they can get this bullshit righted quickly). I always liked Rick Hahn, and I've supported and defended him several times on this board, even if I've bad mouthed the rest of the Sox, Kenny and Reinsdorf. But I'm jealous. And I'm sickened by fans like the ones on BCB and Bleacher Nation having NYE parties where they started watching 2016 WS Game 7 at 7:04 PM so that Rizzo's putout lands right at midnight. STUPID. That was 2016...it sort of makes sense if that happened this year. But stop celebrating a fucking championship from 3+ years ago and LOOK FORWARD. Hold your current team accountable! Don't become the 85 Bears. |

Then kudos to you on a well thought out post, IMU As for the being happy bit, don't count on that. The Cubs being good did little to nothing for the Sox. They weren't going to win the World Series, but even them moving on from Robin Ventura would have improved things and they still didn't do that until his contract was up. |

I'm hoping the larger vocal Cubs fan base and the national exposure and increased local exposure would put pressure on the Cubs. The Athletic article - "How the Resource-Strapped White Sox Took Over the City" or some bullshit of that nature in 2023. If some tweener baseball fans like Nas start to push their numerous kids toward liking the White Sox...going to White Sox games... talking about the White Sox at school. I'm largely a Cubs fan because no one talked about the White Sox in school. They might as well have been another town's team. Money starts flowing south instead of north and it could push the Cubs to fix their shit. White Sox weren't motivated any earlier to get going because they hadn't lost anything they previously had. He likes players and they're usually the ones I hate and he has no loyalty to Chicago teams but knows that he can't be too loud about it around me. My youngest son screams "BEARS!!!" and really seems to be interested in all sports when he sits down for a couple of minutes. He'll be a fan of Chicago teams and not care about taking crap. |
